William and Clarence House have already said that he will be a normal full time officer, continuing his training and the general or specific duties all army officers are subjected to. He is not qualified in any discipline and therefore cannot be an instructor.

Again - all one has to do is look through this thread and realize that most of the pictures are of them 'relaxing.' I really don't think they work that hard. Period.
And, no one has been able to counter my claim that the two Princes don't appear as self-sacrificing as their grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great grandparents. Period. |

And exactly why does he need to appear as self-sacrificing as them?
And if he did appear to be as self-sacrificing would that make him a better King in the future? I mean to appear to be one thing while being something else is way worse in my opinion. It is 2007 and the world has changed alot since his great-grandfather and great-great grandfather where young. |

As they are both in the Army, it would make sense that most of their public time is spent relaxing.

I think we're most familiar with George V and George VI as kings, especially as leaders during wartime, so of course they appear hard-working and self-sacrificing. And the Queen was already the monarch in her mid-20s so there's no real parallel there. However, in biographies of George VI and Queen Elizabeth, it didn't seem as though they performed a whole lot of duties or anything while they were Duke and Duchess of York - I gather they were criticised for spending a lot of time dancing and otherwise socialising. Same for George V: one of his biographers said something along the lines that although there was a lot of official stuff to talk about once he became King, his life before that seemed to consist mostly of killing animals and sticking stamps into his albums.
I don't think the press have very easy access to William while he's on duty, so of course they're going to mostly be photographing him during his leisure time. That doesn't mean he isn't doing other stuff in between the times he's being photographed.

Okay, what would you prefer William and Harry do when they are not working in the Army? Dig ditches? Pick up garbage along the roadway? Paint fences? If I'm in the armed forces and I get a spare moment to myself, you best believe I'll be relaxing and doing nothing. I'm sure they don't get many moments like that, and what we see is an accumulation of photos that make it appear like it's all the time, but it's really not. The boys are living in a different time than their grandparents, great-grandparents and their great-great grandparents did, so one can expect them to behave differently than they did. It doesn't mean they work any more or any less.

May I ask what you do when you are not at work - in general terms only by the way? Presumably you spend your time relaxing, being with your family and friends, playing sports, going out, etc. As the princes are full time army officers that is their work - to train and to perform the tasks associated with being full time commissioned officers. Accordingly the photographers don't have access to them to take photos of them, except doing runs. Would you really like to see photos of them doing administrative duty in the guard room, inspecting their troops, firing a weapon, training themselves etc. When not doing that - their full time job - they seem to spend their time relaxing, being with their family and friends, playing sports, going out etc - exactly as I do and I assume that most of us do when not doing our full time jobs. Unfortunately, as they are second and third in line to the throne, when they do these sorts of things the photographers are there and publish these photos. I see nothing wrong with these young men spending their off duty time with their friends, doing the sorts of things I do (admittedly I don't go to clubs but I do spend time with my friends and family). What would you have them do when not doing their full time job? Do you have any idea of the difficulty of being a full time army officer? If so you would understand why they relax so much away from their duty. |

Have you ever been in the armed forces, have you ever been a British officer, if not how can you possibly say they don't work that hard? The media is unable to get many photo's of them while they are working, are you saying they do nothing the rest of the time, but come out for occasional weekend or evening photo ops?Times have moved on since their grandparents day for a lot of people! ![]()

Princess Anne is/was Patron of the SRU and always attended Scotland's matches, especially when they played England.
If she couldn't attend a Scotland match she didn't go and watch one of the other home countries play. The Welsh are upset that William, their vice-patron chose to watch another of the home countries play and I don't blame them. Had he not wanted to watch them play he should either have resigned as their vice-patron or not gone and watched the game he did. If he takes on these positions then he must support them and be seen to support them. Why couldn't he have taken Kate to the Welsh game, if he wanted a day out with her at the rugby? |

The Welsh that he did attend was part of his offical duties.
We went to Wales vs Scotland as Vice Patron of WRU. They really expect to only go to Walsh games during the Six Nations on his own time I mean he is English. The game he attended this Sunday with Kate and his brother was in England.
