Prince George has a phone? Or did I miss something earlier in this thread?

Kind of random, but after seeing the title of this new thread it strikes me how well the names George and Charlotte sound together. They fit better than some of the other top contenders that were being thrown around - George and Alice, George and Eleanor, etc. don't really have the same ring to them ,IMO.

I agree with the previous posts that nothing short of daily photos of George and Charlotte will lessen the efforts of the paparazzi.

And we are part of the problem - we all rush to buy the latest photo of the children.

“Canadians were delighted on May 2, 2015, to learn of the highly-anticipated birth of Princess Charlotte, the second child of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

“To mark this wonderful occasion, the Government of Canada is pleased to announce a $100,000 donation to Immunize Canada. This child-focused charity is dedicated to promoting the understanding and use of life-saving vaccines to help ensure children across Canada get the best start in life.

Canadians recognize that the Royal Family has always been engaged and conscientious when it comes to the health and well-being of Canadian children. It is therefore fitting that this tradition be continued by providing a donation in the name of Princess Charlotte to help promote protection for children across our great country.

“A Canadian-made snowsuit, reflective of our country’s identity as a northern country, will also be offered by the Government of Canada to Princess Charlotte.

“On behalf of all Canadians, Laureen and I would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations and very best wishes to the happy family on the arrival of their second child.”

"Yes, we love to have another girl"- the Queen about baby Princess Charlotte at yesterday's first Buckingham Palace Garden Party of the season.

P.S. So Princess Charlotte is to be sent a "Bobbie Bear" by the Tasmanian Government.

Never heard of "Bobbie"?

He is so famous throughout Asia, there is a mega trade in counterfeits of him.

His home at the "Bridestowe Lavendar Farm", in Northern Tassie, has become a tourist mecca for young Asian tourists.

And maybe one day Princess Charlotte's photo may be added to the celebrity wall with all the other famous "Bobbie" owners.

Lovely quote from the queen! To me she is implying that Charlotte is another girl in the family to join Savannah, Isla and Mia.

Maybe they can all be 'grannies girls'in a few years like Louise is now... Helping with flowers and riding with her and such- how cute would that be!

It leaves George alone though, the sole thorn among the roses!

I think the gifts of the Dominions to welcome this birth have been incredibly sweet and reflective of their countries' culture. A snowsuit from Canada as well as a huge donation towards child health, from Australia a blanket woven from the finest merino and beautifully embroidered.

The Australian PM also gave $10,000 to Healesville Sanctuary in Charlotte's name to help in the fight to preserve the endangered mountain Pygmy possum.

New Zealand gave a selection of lovely hand-made woollen goods, including little slippers and a teddy bear. The New Zealand Mint is also going to release, in honour of this birth, 1000 silver coins, with a pram (baby carriage) and entwined silver fern and English rose on the reverse. So sweet!

These are Official gifts from countries of the Commonwealth so they will almost certainly be used by the recipients. Other gifts sent by individuals, who knows! Some are supposedly passed on to hospitals, charities anonymously, others reputedly burned.

I would guess that those gifts for George made by local firms that were personally handed over to them during William and Kate's tour of Aus/ NZ ended up in the royal nurseries.

I'm not so sure about all those toy koalas and knitted soft toys people have been giving to Harry in his Aus/NZ meetings with crowds! Even though, he was apparently seen after a similar occasion in England taking a little girl's gift for George into Kensington Palace.

I remember the Premier of NSW giving a pink woollen jumper, made here in Australia and featuring a design of white sheep and one black one, to Charles and Di as a wedding gift and in her early years Diana wore it often.

Official gifts, other than food, become part of the Royal Collection. Food and other consumables are allowed to be consumed but toys and jewels are part of the Royal Collection. That doesn't mean that they aren't used or played with, just that they can't be given away or sold.

e.g. the wombat that George was given last year is the sort of 'toy' that would be put on display if the GG visited William and Kate for an official 'meet and greet' - even well past George and Charlotte's playing with it days.

Can Charlotte in 30 years find a little necklace or China doll that was given to her on her 8th birth day and now part of the collection and love it and get it back for her girl?

Yes, it's not a museum-like collection, just that official gifts remain within the care of the royal family. Will and Kate wouldn't dispose of Canada's snowsuit or the model car they were presented with for George in Australia last year (for example) to anyone else.

They can be used in the future as part of the exhibitions at the palaces such as last year's summer opening at BP which was about Royal childhoods which had George's horse from President Obama & Andrew's toy Aston Martin as some of the items on display

My niece (25 months old) knows how to use a smart phone and cost her parents around 100 Euros because she bought stuff with it . She also likes to randomly call people .

Prince George and Princess Charlotte, General News: May 2015

I love the Official gift we are giving to Charlotte. Something personal for her, and what's more Canadian than a snowsuit after all, and something big to help other children in her name. Love it!!

Speaking of something along those lines...

Some of you may know that I make both Crocheted and Knitted items for my local NICU. Well, I had quite the stash of Hats I'd made over the Winter from a Charity Challenge I took part in that had to be sent up to them, and w/my Sister in Sudbury being my halfway point when headed to Toronto, so when I was packing last week to head down for Stars on Ice, I had an idea pop into my head. Why not this time, make the donation even more special than it usually is, and make it in the name of the new little Princess?

My Sister brought out her stash of cards for me to go through and I found a really nice one wPolar Bear Cubs on it and " A Note From The Heart...", but blank inside so I was able to explain it all. The next time she's at the Hospital for whatever reason, she'll drop them off for me, but before we did all that I made sure to get a Picture of the Hats. So here's how I'm personally celebrating the little Sweetheart's safe arrival...

We counted and there's 32 hats both crocheted or knitted and in various sizes. From Micro Preemie to Full Term.

Anyway...I just thought I'd share that w/all of you and thought this was the right place to do it in. :)

How very lovely and thoughtful!!! I love the teeny tiny hats in there with the "big" ones. I am sure they will be very much appreciated.
