I have no time whatsoever for Prince Andrew. Not only does he appear to be the stupidest member of the family but also rude and arrogant with it. People always comment on Fergie's antics over the years but in the early days they looked like a match made in Heaven. At least she seems to have grown up slightly over the years whilst he appears to be as immature as ever. I doubt that he will ever marry again as no sensible woman would have him.

ANDREW BREAKS RECORD FOR FOREIGN VISITS

3 JANUARY 2005

To describe Prince Andrew as a member of the jet-set would be something of an understatement, as the well-travelled royal has broken his own record for overseas engagements.
The 44-year-old made a staggering 309 foreign visits in 2004, compared with 179 the previous year. And altogether he managed to notch up 581 appearances, meaning that only Princess Anne had a more hectic schedule. The Princess Royal's jam-packed appointment book saw her make 599 visits, though only 131 were overseas.

Most of Andrew's trips were made in his capacity as an official trade ambassador for Britain. Over the course of the last 12 months he has taken in such exotic destinations as Japan, Quatar, Oman, Russia and Bahrain.

His penchant for attending major sporting events – and enjoying the odd round of golf - has also earned him a reputation as a "playboy prince". But representatives for UK Trade and Investment, the governmental body in charge of promoting British industry, insist he is a very hard worker.

"He has never put a foot wrong in all the work he has done for us," said a spokesman. "He is a first-class diplomat. When he started in 2001 it was a steep learning curve, but he's brought management skills with him and he's learned very, very quickly."

1. The Duke of York made some 309 foreign appearances last year, largely through his role as a trade ambassador for Britain

this one is a week old, was on tv and in the papers:

Palace rejects prince criticism

The report cleared the prince of breaking any rules

The Royal Family has rejected criticism of Prince Andrew after the National Audit Office found he spent £325,000 of public money in a year hiring aircraft.

The National Audit Office (NAO) said the prince was reluctant to use "unreliable" trains for journeys, according to a Mail on Sunday report.

But a Buckingham Palace spokesman said the story was an "unbalanced version" of a NAO letter to an MP.

The Palace said the letter should be published in full.

The Mail on Sunday also quoted the Palace as saying that the NAO had "exonerated the Duke of York from inappropriate use of public funds in his use of transport".

The NAO inquiry followed queries from Ian Davidson, Labour MP for Glasgow Pollok, about the prince's travel expenditure.

Expenses detailed in the report included:
  • £32,000 on flights to St Andrews golf course, while Prince Andrew was club captain there
  • Almost £3,000 chartering a helicopter for a 50-mile trip to a lunch in Oxford in June 2003
  • £3,600 using an RAF jet for a 90-mile journey to a Somerset military base in June 2004

An NAO spokesman on Sunday said that the information passed to Mr Davidson was termed as private correspondence and not one of the NAO's official reports, which all go before Parliament.

He said the Palace would have to submit a formal written request asking for the information to be published.

It would then be up to Comptroller and Auditor General Sir John Bourn to decide whether to publish, the spokesman said.

'Disconnected'

After viewing the report, Mr Davidson said Prince Andrew seemed "disconnected from the real world".

"The idea that any of his subjects would be able to take a helicopter simply because the train timetables were deemed by them to be unreliable demonstrates that he is living in a world divorced from the rest of the population of the UK." He said on Sunday that he would meet with the chairman of the Commons Public Accounts Committee to discuss protocol for making the information public. The Royal Family receives Department for Transport grants to pay for air and rail travel to official engagements.
