The Duke of York was in Afghanistan today, visiting UK combat troops at Camp Bastion and Kandahar Airfield.

The Duke of York joined 150 soldiers from the 9th/12th Royal Lancers paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of their regimental predecessors at the service at Montcel-Fretoy in France.
It took place 100 years to the day after the battle of Montcel in which Lieutenant Colonel David Campbell led two troops of the 9 Lancers in a charge and overthrew a squadron of the 1st Garde Dragoner (Prussian Dragoons) in fighting that, remarkably, left only four dead.
Lt Col Campbell, the commanding officer, was wounded in the charge and was dismounted from his horse. Records recount how he was astonished to escape without being trampled on by the horses still engaged in combat

Duke of York challenges entrepreneurs of tomorrow
Prince Andrew has challenged hundreds of young people to develop their digital technology skills, on his visit to a West Midlands school on Thursday.

The Duke was at the Shireland Collegiate Academy in Smethwick to officially open an £8 million theatre and new performance block. Touring the facilities, he took a keen interest in the work of the students and observed 11 and 12 year olds contributing to discussion and classwork on laptop computers.

Along with the professional theatre, the performance block houses specialist facilities for dance, drama and music, along with film and recording studios. Pupils are able to take advantage of a new ‘immersive space’ which projects onto three of the four walls and can combine these with sounds and smells.

i always thought that Prince Andrew is the most looking good of the three sons of the Queen Elisabeth.

Me too, Melina. I also think he looks most like HM.

I think that Andrew is the male version of the Queen Mother and his daughter Eugenie. I think he inherited the least amount of Queen Mary's genes out of all of HM/DoE's children.

I think when Andrew was younger he was very dashing I remember him so clearly coming back from the falklands in his uniform. He doesn't look like his brothers Edward seems more like Phillip and Charles I'm not sure who I see in him.

IMO Charles, Anne and Edward are mostly Windsors but Andrew is more a Bowes-Lyon.

The Duke of York does a lot of great work. I'm glad the media is being nicer to him.

The Duke of York currently is in China. He attended the 10th anniversary of Harrow International School Beijing, opened the new campus of Harrow Beijing, met with Chinese technology entrepreneurs and with Premier Li today, October 24.

I have recently begun to follow Prince Andrew on Twitter and have been surprised at the amount of work he does, most of it unrecognised. Unfortunately the same is true of Edward and Anne.

I know they don't do it for the recognition but it would be nice of the media to recognise that the Royal Family doesn't begin & end with William, Kate & Harry. I'm not having a go at W, K & H - I know they can't control what is written, my gripe is with the media.

It happens in all of the royal families...so nothing new! The media attention is on the regent couple, the heir to the throne and his family!

I agree. It's probably always happened.

When Princess Margaret was in her twenties she was considered beautiful, glamorous and exciting. She went to nightclubs! A lot of Press attention focused on her, and of course on her sister. Much less then went on the Duchess of Kent (always considered very chic and elegant, though) and on the Gloucesters.

When Prince Charles and Princess Anne entered public life they soaked up more attention than the minor royals got.

I think it's just reflective of the media and public constantly wanting new stories on the royals. Because the young out-rate the old, and females generally are considered better value than males (hair, clothes, shoes) the media goes for what sells.

Richard Palmer has consistently said that Kate is the only royal (apart from the Queen, of course) who is virtually guaranteed her photo in the paper on her engagements.)

Incidentally, for those interested, Prince Andrew is taking the salute on the veterans’ march past at Horse Guards on Remembrance Sunday.

#pitchatpalace guests at @TheDukeOfYork official event include #Princesses #Beatrice #Eugenie & @SarahTheDuchess

Is it usual that the duchess Sarah is attending a event with prince Andrew and her girls?

When I asked why #TheDuchessOfYork was at an official royal event at royal palace one senior source said because #HRHTheDukeOfYork asked her

It is interesting to me that TheDuchessOfYork is attending an official royal engagement at a royal palace supporting her ex husband.

This is intriguing but not unprecedented. She attended the Duke's being installed as a Knight of the Garter. Still, having her at two events with a royal connection in as many weeks is v-e-r-y interesting.:flowers:
