He was asked in 1994 to take the throne of Estonia, but declined - and the country has remained a republic since.

Really? I would have taken the throne, but I would prefer Lithuania cuz some of my ancestors were from there.

At the time there was a lot of speculation that Lithuania, Latvina and Estonia would join up, perhaps even with Belrussia.
If Edward had accepted he could have a Russian Tsardom by now.

Edward and Sophie...have been attending two-hour classes at London's prestigious Instituit Francais, both together and separately, since last year. Prince Edward was recently spotted leaving the Instituit with his wife, clutching a French grammar book and dictionary.

According to reports, the Royal couple enjoy visiting friends in France and thought that swotting up on the language would help them both at work an on holiday.

Edward leaves for Urugury tomorrow. He will be at the swearing of President Tabare Vazquez, along with dignataries like Fidel Castro and Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Spain.

Is it my imagination or is Buckingham Palace giving Edward and Sophie a lot more 'high profile' events since the beginning of the year?

I see that Sophie and Edward will be going to Canada in June - a month after the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh go there. Edward will also visit Chile after Urugury.

The Queen and Prince Philip are getting older and I'm sure that frequent out of country trips must be more tiring for them than even five years ago.

Charles has his own busy agenda and is increasingly getting caught up in his own escapades and public battles, whether they involve him, his relationship with Camilla or with his sons, especially Harry.

Anne has always performed many royal duties, though she seems to attend a limited number of engagements out of Britain and Scotland.

Andrew has a semi-private job doesn't he? Which would take him out performing royal duties.

I think Edward and Sophie are the next best in line to take on duties that the Queen and Prince Philip cannot perform, whether because of scheduling conflicts or because they don't want to travel. And since they each gave up their full time jobs what else is there for them to do?

Today, Prince Edward will arrive in Uruguay to begin his visit to this country.Tonight, he will the Presidential Reception held by president Jorge Batlle at Edificio Mercosur, Montevideo.I think that actually Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia will also be there.Hope we will have some beautiful pics.

Also tomorrow, The Countess of Wessex will attend a Reception for people who have contributed to the musical life of the nation at Buckingham Palace.After that, she will attend a Lunchtime Reception and Concert for Schools at Buckingham Palace.All these events given by The Queen.

The case of the Two Sophie's.

I was wondering if anyone could possibly help with a little mystery. On the 1st-3rd of March the Countess of Wessex ,according to the British press, was in England. She apparently attended the reception for musicial achievers with the Queen. According to press in Urugury and Chile, Sophie was with Edward in the county. So where was she? I have been unable to find photo's of her at either event. And I thought that maybe they mistook Princess Letitia of Spain for Sophie, but they clearly refer to the Spanish princess, so why would they mistake someone wlse for Sophie?

Where has Sophie been? Haven't seen much of her lately.

Difficult to answer, Sophie didn't have any engagments for two weeks. Then went to the Breast Cancer haven party and then disappeared again. It is possible that she joined Edward in Urugury and Chile - she might have joined him in America as well. She has two engagements this week.

Sophie attended the reception for musicians with the Queen. Perhaps she didn´t go to Chile/America because she has a daughter and she wants to take care of her.You have to consider that she´s a mother now and for every working mother it´hard to combine the two roles.A child can become ill and then the mother has to stay at home....
