Security is a specialist subject, so as a lay person, my comments are just my own thoughts. My view is that the more minor royals like the Kents, Gloucesters etc should not have any security detail at all, wether in the UK or abroad, unless there is a specific threat. When it comes to slightly more senior royals (Yorks, Wessex's and Anne), overseas security, they should rely on the country being visited to provide security. As regards the Queen and the Wales family, I think they will need top level security, but to the extent they can rely on the country being visited to provde it, they should.

Well, now it's been made public I suppose we'll just have to wait for one of the "minor" royals to get killed on an overseas tour before they decide that perhaps this was a case of false savings. Either that or I hope they'll rearrange things so that the Queen is represented abroad by royals who are senior enough that their lives are considered worth protecting.

I can see the point of quietly cutting back on security in areas that are deamed to be safer than others.

I like this post. I think anyone who goes abroad to represent the Monarch should have security, period. I don't know what is the best diplomatic understanding of mutual responsibility between two countries (the represented and the honored). That depends, I suppose, on the discretion of the Foreign Office.

I fully expect there to be several assassinations and/or kidnappings of royals in the next five to ten years. I then expect all of Britain to raise a huge outcry about why the royals were not more protected!

It's really kind of funny that the government is cutting security for them now, when with every passing year it's much more likely for a royal to be attacked than it was in the past few decades.

I think she did not attend that church service, otherwise there
would surely have been a pic of her and Charles..
