Five of the Royal Family demoted as BBC changes its protocol on broadcast death list | Mail Online

Quote:
The BBC has downgraded five senior members of the Royal Family by ordering that their deaths should no longer trigger an automatic interruption of normal broadcasts.
Prince Harry, Princess Anne, Princes Andrew and Edward and the Countess of Wessex had formerly belonged to a special BBC list known as Category 2, which has now been abolished.

Really interesting, indeed. The article itself says that the deaths of the Prime Minister, the Pope, and the Archbishop of Canterbury have also been "demoted," meaning they wouldn't warrant "special report" interruption. Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair, and Nelson Mandela have also apparently been downgraded. I'm sorry, but if the PM dies, or an influential former PM like Thatcher or Blair, I'd think that'd be worth interrupting programming, wouldn't you? I'd think the same would be true for royal figures who have been in the media spotlight from birth, like Harry, Anne, Andrew, and Edward...

Here's my question...why do they feel the need to announce it? If they downgraded these particular people.....why publicize and politicize it? It seems a little unnecessary IMO.

True enough, Zonk. I'm sure the general public wasn't aware of the "tiered" system for death announcements at the BBC before this. A change without publicity wouldn't probably have made much difference.

An unwise, and dare I say unpopular move that. I mean The Prime Minister and/or The Primate of All England dies suddenly and we don't hear about it until the BBC is 'good and ready', and the rest of the demotions won't curry favour with me. This smacks of the highest disrespect for at least two "principal office holders in the land' and the affront to the Royal Family here is truly beyond any pail.

Besides a network like ITV and CNN would 'scoop" the announcement now, not a wise commercial move either.

Funny how royals and people like Thatcher and Mandela do not get ' Breaking News' yet if some Hollywood starlet or other (in my opinion, probably overrated) celebrity was found dead then we would not hear the end of it.

Starlets wouldn't get as much high profiled news as the death of Baroness Thatcher or Nelson Mandela.
When Brittany Murphy died it was on British news for a day maybe.

The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Andrew, Princess Eugenie,
Princess Beatrice, Princess Anne and husband Tim and Prince
Edward are those I've seen so far attending the Easter Service
at St. George's Chapel:

I've finally found Sophie, not best pics, but at least a proof
that she's been at the Easter Service as well and a chance
to see that she looked as lovely as the other ladies did

You just made my wish come true, Iceflower!! Sophie looks impeccable in the red coat/suit.

As to the York sisters: these photos are definitely for those who have been bashing the two girls' fashion choices and style. They're still way too young and in the process of learning what suits/flatters them and what doesn't. Congratulations to both - they looked absolutely chic!

While I agree that they may be too young & in process of learning when it comes to fashion I lack in sharing your enthusiasm, NoorMeansLight.

However, thank you for all the pictures, Iceflower. It's always so nice to see the family on these occasions and the Countess of Wessex indeed looked lovely.

IMO the Yorks looked especially dreadfully dressed on this occassion. Can't understand why anyone would think those horrible blue and white outfits are nice.

Queen Elizabeth, her nephew Viscount Linley and her niece Lady Sarah
Chatto attended a party for the Castle of Mey Trust at the Goring Hotel
in London. Not sure when exactly but must have been during the last
days.. Wonderful to see those three together and to see the Queen
that relaxed

The 150th anniversary of the cadet movement is celebrated today,
July 6, with two events - a parade and a garden party at Buckingham
Palace.

The Prince of Wales attended the parade of Cadets and adult voluteers
from the Cadet forces during the Cadet150 Royal Review on the Mall :

Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Edward, the Duchess and Duke of
Gloucester and the Duke of Kent are expected to attend the garden party,
the above posted gallery may be updated with pics of the second
event as well, as the title already includes it now.
