The Princess Royal walks a dog as she makes her way to
a dressage arena during the Festival of British Eventing at
Gatcombe Park, Stroud, August 8, 2009

I can't help but this is one of the rare dog breeds I do not
like ;)

Keep a tight grip on that dog of yours, Princess Anne!

Her dogs have a reputation for less than regal behaviour – and several victims including a Royal housemaid have the scars to prove it.
So when Princess Anne’s bull terrier came within sniffing distance of a playful four-year-old boy yesterday, onlookers were naturally anxious.

After all, it was another of her terriers called Dotty that attacked two boys in Windsor Great Park in 2002.

Another eye witness report from the weekend thanks to HorseandHound.
.
Everytime I see Horse and Hound I always think of Notting Hill with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts! :ROFLMAO:

Now when an event is held here, does Gatcombe get anything for it? These events are not cheap!

I dont understand the connections you made with Horse and Hound.

From these 2 links (again from Horse and Hound)

Festival of British Eventing - Horse & Hound

Photo-Synergy

it is clear that The Princess has delivered quality to her paying guests.

Whether Gatcombe events make enough money to offset the investments, is another question.

The photo upthread in one of those horseandhound links with the cattle and sheep in the background is my favourite. A photo like that could be used by the British livestock industry to promote its clean green organic product. As such, the livestock industry could help The Princess to off -set some of the expenses incurred in getting such a beautiful image into print. I'm sure it is sponsorship that makes the real money whereas admissions and entry fees are just cash flows.

From my own experience, exhibitors pay for displaying their goods and a surcharge is put on the use of stalls if you have to hire them in. Obviously there are entry fees, car parking fees etc.

Thank you Arncliffe and Sky! :flowers:
Arn, when Hugh Grant got close to Julia Roberts' American Movie Star character in the movie Nottinghill, he had to pretend to be from the press, so he said he was from HorseandHound. Watch the movie, it's quaint.

Princess Royal cancels on veterans after RAF leaves her grounded - Telegraph

Another sign of the recession bitting for the royals?
"The RAF aircraft we had lined up is no longer available and, unfortunately, with taxpayers' money etc, we are unable to justify chartering a private aircraft on this occasion as this option is extremely expensive," Fran Eason, the Princess's secretary, had emailed the organisers.

Horse & Hound's royal birthday gift

You are the editor of Horse & Hound, your magazine is celebrating its 125th anniversary, you need a cover star … whoyagunnacall? Yes, the Princess Royal! The current issue of the mag features the princess and two horses on the cover. The weekly's 196-page anniversary issue also carries an exclusive interview with the woman known to the magazine as "British equestrian icon, HRH The Princess Royal", where she talks "candidly" about the role that the title and horses have played in her life.

The picture of the Horse & Hound cover - Princess Anne looks lovely. :)

Princess Anne to attend sheepdog trials in Cumbria

A princess will cheer on competitors at the international sheepdog trials in Cumbria next week.
Princess Anne is patron of the International Sheep Dog Society (ISDS), which is staging the International Supreme Championships on the Lowther Estate, near Penrith, from Friday to Sunday.

Princess to visit historic school

The Princess Royal is to tour a Highlands secondary school with connections to King George III. In 1809, he signed a royal charter granting permission for an academy to be built in Tain.
Head teacher Donnie MacLeod said: "We are all very excited about the visit, which will mark an important year for our school in a very special and memorable way."

Thank you Marcel Princess Anne on the cover of Horse and Hound is wonderful

What an honor for Princess Anne to appear on the anniversary cover of Horse and Hound magazine. It's a nice picture of her too.

Princess Royal opens Largs pier

A new pier for the Ayrshire seaside town of Largs has been officially opened by HRH the Princess Royal.

The structure will help provide shelter and overnight berthing for CalMac ferries, which run on the Largs to Cumbrae route.
It will also be used by the world's last sea-going paddle steamer, The Waverley, on day trips from Glasgow.

Princess Anne, wearing Team GB Olympic sunglasses, watches
the International Sheep Dog Trials on September 11, 2009 in
Penrith, England. Top handlers from England, Ireland, Scotland
and Wales competed in front of crowds, that included Princess
Anne, for the 15 places in Sunday's Supreme Championship at
Lowther Estate, Cumbria.

That blood red is such a nice, rich color on her. Love the dog! Thanks Ice!

You are most welcome, Russophile :flowers:

HRH The Princess Royal visiting The Household Cavalry Regiment
on 14th September 2009 prior to their deployment to Afghanistan.

Princess Anne toured the barracks with the Commanding Officer
and saw the latest exhibits at the regimental museum and the
new soldiers dining facility. She was also given an opportunity
to be briefed on a small selection of equipment, demonstrated
by the soldiers who will be using it in Afghanistan. The Princess
Royal is Colonel of The Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons
(The Blues and Royals), one of the regiments that make up The
Household Cavalry Regiment.

How many Gatcombe Horse Trials are there in a year. Weren't they all there in July or early August?

Good question :) I'm not sure I guess there are two,
there has also been one in March, in August The Festival
of British Eventing was held on her country estate at
Gatcombe Park, and now we've seen the second competition
called Gatcombe Horse Trials.
For next year I've only seen one listed in August.

Here are some pics from yesterday:

Trials Three Day Event on September 20, 2009 in Minchinhampton.

How many? Yes, I know what you mean. 3 as far as I know. But due to the extensive property renovation with fantastically successful drainage work, Gatcome can be used nearly all year round and in all weathers. Many events in England have had to cancelled recently due to excessive rain and waterlogging. Gatcombe will now just soldier on so I expect more.

Spring & Autumn are the two events they hold at Gatcombe. The Spring is the Novice & Intermediate events whilst the Autumn is the CIC* and CIC** International Events. :flowers:

That sounds logical, thanks Skydragon! :)

An addition to Anne's engagements of last week:

Princess Anne opened the British Ceramic Tile Limited's
new factory in Heathfield, Devon, September 18, 2009.

Thanks a lot for the link, Dierna23!

Here are some pics from today:

Princess Anne officially opens the new RAF Association Remembrance
Garden at The National Memorial Arboretum on September 28, 2009
in Alrewas, near Lichfield, England.
The 50 metre-long garden features the RAF Association emblem -
a stainless steel eagle sitting on top of the world. The eagle is made
up of over 1000 hand-forged feathers.
