King Edward II and Queen Isabella arrived on a state visit to France at the end of May 1313, traveling with the earls of Pembroke and Richmond and other loyalists.
They had been invited to France to enjoy the honor of witnessing Edward's father-in-law King Philip IV of France knight nearly two hundred young men. These men included King Philip's sons Louis king of Navarre, Philip, and Charles.

Prior to the King and Queen's departure ,the King appointed his nephew the Earl of Gloucester in England as Regent.The king and queen entered Paris on the 2nd of June and a banquet was held at St-Germain-des-Prés near Paris.
Present were King Edward and Queen Margaret,Louis of Navarre and Marguerite, queen of Navarre,The Counts of Artois,Valois and Evreux.
