That is the first thing I thought when I saw that pic. This was probably a huge mistake.

I think reina meant the picture with King abdullah and queen rania visiting the pope. Princess maxima has never met the pope. Maybe this time, she;s pregnant, and her baby will come in june. I think it will be hard for a pregnant woman to sit 3 to 4 hours in a warm building.:o
By the way. I never saw a dutch royal family member ever visit the pope.

The princesses of Monaco are not given le privelege du blanc, which is the right to wear white to the Vatican. The only women who can wear white to the Vatican are the Queens of Spain and Belgium, the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, the Princesses of Savioa, and the Archduchesses of Habsburg. All other royal women, Catholic or not must wear black to the Vatican.

What determines which Catholic royals are given le privelege du blanc? And, why would Queen Rania where white to the Vatican? An oversight on her part?

Rania didn't actually white. It was some sort of strange color. Not white, not beige, it almost appears as a light mauve or champagne color in the photographs. I don't think that it was an oversite. I can't believe that whoever is the JRF's minister of protocol had no idea that Rania should not wear white or in this case even a variation of it. I don't know what she was thinking. A simple black dress and chapel veil really would have been fine.

I agree with Grand Duchess. The same rule about wearing black if you are not a catholic king or queen(monarch or consort) or not a king or queen at all also applies to visiting heads of state(ex. president, prime minister, etc.)

I believe that only Catholic Queens wear white. In Europe that is the Queens of Spain and Belgium, The Grand Duchess of Luxembourg and the Soveriegn Princesses of Liechtenstein and Monaco. (The last three being the equivalent of a Queen in thier respective countries.) In Africa the Queen of Lesotho and in Polynesia the Queens of Uvea, Sigave and Alo.

You are right carlota, rania made a huge mistake by wearing white dress with a white mantilla, since she's not a christian either a catholic queen ,thing which shows that she only copies what the others do or what is the tendency without thinking to respect her self first and the people which she's representing, she could be in a white veil ,and the mantilla doesn't related to her by anything !!.

According to an article then of the french magazine "Paris match",queen rania made a "false step",and blunder for both vatican's rools and her own people which she's representing!
