Holmger Knutsson, born some time before 1220, the son of king Knut II of Sweden (1229 - 1234) and his queen Helena Pedersdatter Strange, was claimant to throne after his father's death but instead the previous king Erik XI (nicknamed the Lisp and Lame) was reinstated. In 1247 Holmger made an unsuccessful attempt for the crown, but lost the battle of Sparrsätra, and was captured and executed in 1248. After his death there was an attempt to have him established as a saint.
Holmger's younger brother Filip Knutsson was also executed in 1251, having taken part in the same uprising as his brother.
