Bowing and Curtseying

Now that's a true court curtsey; you don't really see that type of obeisance anymore! Thanks for the pic, LadyFinn.

Ok, so who bows/curtsies to Prince George?

It's up to members of the public and other officials to bow and curtsey to Prince George when they meet him, if they like. Members of the royal family only bow and curtsey to The Queen and sometimes to The Duke of Edinburgh.

To be practical, no one will curtsey him until atleast he becomes Prince of Wales..
Then as PoW, maybe one in twenty will do that..
And when he becomes King one in ten will bow or curtsey him..
How did I come to this figure? Just a few videos of the number of people bowing/curtseying the Queen.. This dismal fraction will keep dwindling more rapidly due to the silly "modern British" who mistake tradition for subservience.
And regarding royals..no one will bow/curtsey him till the moment he becomes King. From then every royal, British/foreign (other than monarchs&consorts) will duly bow/curtsey him..
And as for his mother, she will curtsey him just at his coronation, thats it..

Once he gets older, some people most likely will curtsey and bow to Prince George as he's third in line to the throne and a senior royal. I don't think he have to be the Prince of Wales and King for it to happen. His uncle-Prince Harry-is forth in line and some people curtsey and bow to him.

It is just your wishful over-optimism, Dman. No one will care to bow/curtsey him when he is 20 or 30-something..
And do people curtsey Harry? Really? I am pleasantly surprised.. Then the Queen must be jealous of him..lol

I would think only in more formal situations does this happen much at all to any royal unless it's someone who is of the older generation doing the curtseying....are young people/children still being taught to curtsey in the U.K.?

When I was a child, I wasn't taught how to curtsey and if I recall, none of my friends were. With the exception of royal and possibly aristocratic children; nowadays, I think that most children and young people in the UK aren't taught how to curtsey. Some children who attend drama classes are taught how to bow, as usually you bow at the end of a play. :flowers:

Maybe also an attempt to repair some of the damage caused by his predecessor's somewhat mediaeval attitude to Islam.

Maybe because he wants to show his respect, appreciates her humanitarian work and admires her personality.
Bowing and courtseying is a sign of respect, this is not limited to royals and people in showbusiness :flowers:
Judging from what I know & heard about him, I am sure Pope Francis would not bow to a Queen or any aristocrat just because they have a royal title.

:previous: Yes and like Warren said, Rania being a Muslim queen has something to do with it as well. Although Pope Benedict visited Jordan in 2009, relations between the Muslim world and the Vatican weren't too cordial during his papacy (unlike his predecessor John Paul II who really was the first to reach out to the Islamic community and began to reverse his church's archaic attitude towards the religion).

You can see then Princess Elizabeth, Princess Margaret and The Duchess of Gloucester curtsey to The King & Queen. Not very low curtsies but nice dips.

A very deep curtsey from Princess Lillian to the King and Queen on her wedding day:

The guards behind..are they of Brazilian Armed Forces? Or privately hired?

They are from the Armed Forces.

They are part of the Cerimonial Guard of the Emperor's Grenadiers, a branch of the Brazilian Army, part of the 1st Emperor's Battalion, still serving the Imperial Family for cerimonial purposes.

Some pictures of them with the Imperial Family:

HRH Prince Antonio of Brazil, third in the Line of Succession to the Brazilian Throne, is patron of them. Every year, in the anniversary of the Battalion, His Royal Highness attends the festivities. Last year, he received the Emperor's Grenadiers Medal of Merit:

I'm unsure if this question has been posted before yet but I'd like to ask with her position is now reverted back to a Princess and if she is present, will Beatrix now have to curtsey to the new King and Queen of the Belgians when they pay an introductory visit at the end of November/ early December?

In my opinion, Princess Beatrix will have to curtsy other Monarchs, because the position of King and Queen outranks her position as a Princess.

But I doubt King Albert II of Belgium or Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg will ever have to bow to a King or Queen, because they retained their Monarchical titles.

No I do not expect Queen Beatrix (I shall always refer to her as Queen) to curtsey the Belgian monarch..Its once a monarch, lifelong a monarch. Just her title changes, and her precedence comes after the present King and Queen. But that doesnt diminish her status.
Actually, all these protocols are very "blurred" for Dutch/Belgian/Lux houses. Basically they dont curtsey among each other, and upon that abdication confuses everything.
In the first place, I think Beatrix will not be present at the official reception ceremonies of Belgian (or any other) royals visits. If at all they meet her in private then it doesnt matter whether she curtsies or not.
IMO there were never any instances of abdicated monarchs receiving visiting Heads of State or attending State banquets. I would appreciate any such pics/vids..
