Where Did Royal Couples Meet?

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
the most intersting of all is the way king hussein met queen alia,he met alia when she was 1years old,he used to play and babysitt her!:)

looks like i'll be heading off to beijing '08 when the olympics roll around. i have guillame. ;-)

i suppose it was easy for Joachim and Alexandra to keep their relationship a secret, considering the fact that they dated while they were both living in Hong Kong. So it wasn't that easy for the Danish press to track them down, and i highly doubt that the Hong Kong tabloids would have taken much interest in their relationship at the time.

There's always the royal wedding. Also a good place to meet.;)

King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia met at a wedding.
They had met before but they fell in love at a wedding in England.
The wedding of the Dukes of Kent, I think it was.

maxima and w-a met in the feria de sevilla (sevilla's fayre).

mette marit and haakon in a concert in kristiansand.

erm. Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria-Theresa met at the University of Geneva, if i'm not mistaken

Beatrix met Claus at a dinner party. From then on, Prince Richard acted as a decoy (he and Claus were old friends) so Claus and Beatrix could spend some more time getting to know each other without the pressure from the public. Then some random photographer hid in the garden and took this fuzzy picture of an unsuspecting Beatrix and Claus and their little secret was out!

Sara Boyce
I dont think that! I have seen a pics of Andrew and Sarah with the queen when they was children

Queen Rania met Abdullah at a dinner party in Amman. I've heard varying reports as to the host/hostess. Some say Abdullah's sister Aisha was hosting the party, others that Rania went as a friend of Alia, the wife of Prince Feisal, Abdullah's brother.

I find it to be interesting how many of the royals met each other in pretty normal places. It gives me hope that I'll be able to catch my "prince charming" Pierre Casiraghi of Monaco:D!

The Prince Felipe knew Letizia Ortiz during a dinner. A journalist organized a dinner in his house to speak on today's news to that the Prince was invited, but nobody knew that he would come. Letizia was invited by a companion of work which wife could not accompany it this night, and to the being a journalist meeting him commented to Letizia if she would like to go. The Prince and Letizia were the youngest of the meeting, and it seems that they connected likely and were speaking the whole night, among other things of moves.

The Prince had broken with Eve Sannum, and Letizia a time after her divorce, had a relation with another journalist (but it seems that it was not very serious).

According to the Prince, this meeting did not have any consequence. In the following months they coincided with several occasions, in events to which Letizia came as journalist (the Prizes Prince of Asturias, the catastrophe of the Prestige). Later Letizia went away to Iraq.
To her return the Prince called her, and though, as it is said she resisted a bit, finally she I agree. The own Letizia wanted the maxim discrection. The situation was not easy, the Prince it had passed badly with his previous relation. Letizia had passed for a divorce, and knew that if her relation with the Prince was known they could do very much damage her and her family (without telling that probably she should spoil her professional career).
For several months they kept their relation by no means secret. They were going out to have dinner, were meeting in friends' houses, some trip to the European capitals.
In October both come to Oviedo to the delivery of the Prizes Prince of Asturias. From there the rumor starts arising, and on November 1 they meet obliged to announce the commitment, one month or two before what they had foreseen.
Letizia the day before the advertisement presented her last television newscast almost without knowing it. Her companions of work and not even friends knew anything, it seems that only her parents and sisters knew it, that also they supported a great discrection. A graceful anecdote is that of the companion of Letizia, Maria Oña, who when the rumor arose, asked her friend Letizia, and she answered her " You say that he is called Juan and is diplomatic ".

Though many things have been told, it seems that this one is the history that approaches more or less the reality.

Eva was Mette-Marit's friend. And it was while hanging out with Haakon that Felipe met Eva. Hence Eva's presence at Haakon and Mette-Marit's wedding -- and hence the big deal made in Hola! magazine at the time about the great lengths Queen Sofia went to not be anywhere near Eva, whom she did not approve of.

I actually believe that Felipe and Eva met at a restaurant in Madrid when she was a model in Spain. Eva said she came with some of her friends who were also friends with Felipe. Felipe was the only one to speak fluently English and she did not speak enough Spanish to communicate with the other men so she sat next to him.
I also believe that Eva was Friend with an ex-GF of Haakon's (the one who was a model too). But I don't think she knew Mette-Marrit very well (at least at the begining).

How did the Royal couples meet?

Hello, everyone!!!
I was wondering if anyone knows how did the actual sovereigns meet, I'm talking about (for example): Harald and Sonja, Albert and Paola, Margrethe and Henrik, etc
We all know everything about the CP couples these days, but I think it's interesting to know the love stories of the Kings, how and when did they meet, how did they started dating, etc...

Here's my contribution to the thread:
Juan Carlos and Sofía of Spain:

In the summer of 1954, Queen Federica of Greece organized a cruise in the Agamenon yatch as an opportunity for young royals to meet (the Royal families hadn't had this type of reunion since WWI), there were Juan Carlos de Borbón (age: sixteen) and Sofía of Greece (age: fifteen), but there wasn't a real interest back then.

July 1958, at the Althausen castle, Juan Carlos told his friends that he liked Sofía a lot: "she has bewitched me", at the dance he started courting her, dancing and walking through the palace's gardens.

Their first real "date" was on June 8th, 1961, at the wedding of the Dukes of Kent, they stayed in the same hotel, went to watch the movie "Exodus" with Constantine (her brother) and the protocol assigned Juan Carlos as Sofía's escort for the entire nuptials (pre-wedding dinner, wedding, reception).

After that, Queen Federica decided to invite Juan Carlos and his family to the Corfú palace, where they officially started dating as a couple.

Juan Carlos proposed to Sofía in a strange way: in Switzerland he throw a box at her and said: "Sofi, catch it" and that was it, they got married on May 14th, 1962.

King Gustav and Queen Sylvia : At the Munich 1972 Olympic games, she was working for the games organisation as a hostes, he was there as usually royals go to the games. For years they were obliged to hide their relation, but we all know the happy end.

Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly : In spring 1954 She was in France for her Hitchcock film "Catch the thieve" with Cary Grant, and Paris-Match the french magasine had the idea to organise a photo reportage of her paying a visit to Prince Rainier. Wonderfull pics appeared, wit her wearing a "newlook" dress, dark with red big flowers, she was stunning, but as she said after, at this moment it was just a proffessional obligation.

King Costantin and Anne-Marie : I'm not very sure, but I think it was during Juan Carlos and Sofia's wedding???

Yeah, I believe they married out of love because at the time neither one was certain of the future, but they decided to build it together and look how well it turned!!

Can you believe he never actually asked the question, he told her father: "uncle, i'm here to marry your daughter" (King Pavlos wasn't really his uncle but Juan Carlos called him that and also called Queen Federica "aunt Freddy!); cheeky young man, he wasn't asking for permission, he just wanted the Kings to know of his intentions:D

What a funny story about the engagement of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía... he has a great humor sense, no doubt!

The story of KJC and QS's engagement was also featured in the November 2005 Newsletter. It can also be found in the book La Reina (of Pilar Urbano) that Juanita was so kind as to post in the Royal Library. ;)

No, Eva was the friend of Haakons ex girlfriend Cathrine Knudsen (also a model), atleast that is the story I have read in several Norwegian publicasions. I belive Eva and Cathrine worked together in Madrid. If you search on www.cover.es there are pictures of the two of them together

Eva presens in the norwegian wedding was according to several article in the Norwegian press more due to Felipe than to Haakon, she has not been seen with Haakon and Mette-Marit for atleast 2 years nor was she invited to their daughters christening so they cant be that close.
