Elizabeth II and Philip first met at Royal Navy College Dartmouth, where he was a cadet, on July 1939, while she was in visit with her parents. He was 18 and she was 13.

i love the pictures i've seen of queen elizabeth and philip when they first met, they were playing in the garden (chase or something) and they wrote letters to one another... so romantic!

caroline and ernst on the other hand, grace always had her eye on him, because she wanted caroline to either marry charles or ernst. caroline met ernst on a ski trip in her teenage years and found him "boring" so i guess when they became closer friends later in life she had no reason to find him "boring!!!"

They became secretely engaged while Philip was staying at Balmoral during summer 1946. Then the engagement was announced in July 1947.

looks like i'll be heading off to beijing '08 when the olympics roll around. i have guillame. ;-)

i suppose it was easy for Joachim and Alexandra to keep their relationship a secret, considering the fact that they dated while they were both living in Hong Kong. So it wasn't that easy for the Danish press to track them down, and i highly doubt that the Hong Kong tabloids would have taken much interest in their relationship at the time.

Thumbs up

There's always the royal wedding. Also a good place to meet.

King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia met at a wedding.
They had met before but they fell in love at a wedding in England.
The wedding of the Dukes of Kent, I think it was.
