I love the ones of Queen Elizabeth II. I have never seen photos of her shopping before.

That's funny all royals make their shopping only in big stores of famous brands and designers, but I like more the infanta who's doing her shopping in a supermarket like evryone here :))

Hi all!
Maybe I'm old-fashioned, maybe I'm getting old (most likely) but I don't quite like royals acting like the rest. If royals behave like you or me, what's the use of having royals, I mean.
All the same, thank you all for the pictures. They are great!
Cheers!
Martin

That's exactly what I mean. When I was a child (ages ago) royals were royals. That is, they wouldn't work in offices or companies, protocol was strict, etc and they wouldn't enjoy the freedom we had to go where they pleased, to dress anyway they liked, etc. So people thought: 'Well, they're earning their wages' When Queen Paola of Belgium (at that time Princess of Liège) first dared to wear a bikini, people were scandalised! Now, royals look like you or me, work for their personal achievement, etc, so where are their duties? People feel: 'Well, I can be a royal too! All the fun and none of the worries.'
But don't mind me, I'm ranting
Cheers!
Martin:)

What do you think would be worse? To be followed everywhere during shopping or just occassionally being watched?

I ask because if you know the cameras are always there, you would act differently. But if they are only there sometimes, then they could catch you in a silly moment.:o

Do you understand what I mean? Like Princess Diana expected them to be there and acted accordingly. Do you think the new Princesses feel that way?

I'm sure even though royals are more "normal" nowadays; they still feel the pressure to act to a certain standard.

I love pictures of the royals shopping, there's some of Madeleine shopping at Gucci that I'll try and hunt for.

EDIT: I have found the pictures! :)

Madeleine does love her Gucci; I know she has several bags from them as well as sunglasses and who knows what else!
I think Gucci closed down the store for her to shop in peace but they said they do not give her discounts as some other stores do.

Yes you are right soCal girl. Gucci closed down for nearly two hours sometime around mid June last year so Princess Madeleine could shop in privacy. I remember reading about that.

There has been a discussion on KA & QR thread visiting the US about QR shopping before her confrence on poverty.

Moreover if you claim to have never seen other Royals, can I point you the the thread in the "Chit Chat" section on the very subject. Royals are photographed all the time shopping, Rania is no exception (even if you want her to be!) Moreover if you look at any of the vacation threads you'll see pictures of Royals shopping (the Spanish holiday in Mallorca is a prime example).
Rania was not on holiday (as mentioned the spanish royals were on holiday) Rania was on a visit for a confrence on poverty. I dont think anyone said that QR or any other Royals should not shop, but I think some members did not like the fact that she was shopping before a poverty confrence which is was a speaker at (spending money then talking about poverty). Royals have every rightto shop, they are just like any other human being.
I have not seen other royals shopping prior such a confrence, also most royals pictured shopping was on vacation thats the difference imo

The photos were taken 2 days before her official visit began. What she chooses to do in those 2 days is entirely her business.

So you expect her to sit in her hotel room twiddling her thumbs for 2 days?

I've seen photos in the past of Royals undertaking shopping trips whilst on a official visit. Mary and Fred's trip to Australia springs to mind as I can recall several different photos of them socialising, meeting with friends and shopping before, after and in between Royal duties.
