What a shame Diana's supporters don't remember this and value what they have in Camilla!

One could argue, however, that it is too bad he keeps giving them so much ammunition to villify him with, though. ;-)

*Ahem* One could also argue that this is a thread for quotes, not for arguments arising from them.

The famous quote by King Farouk of Egypt (paraphrased)

'In a few years there will only be five kings -- the King of England and the four kings found in a pack of cards'.

He was wrong, of course, but it is often cited.

Actually Sean, this quote is from Babe Paley, the famous American socialite. The Duchess had a cushion embroidered with this sentence though, and it was thus associated with her. :)

Default Royal Quotes...

Many royal's have shared a way with words...

Witty, sincere, humerous, rude & arrogant alike, here are some of their quotes. I especially like Queen Mary's, god bless her.

HM the Queen Marie of Romania:
Fashion exists for women with no taste, etiquette for people with no breeding.

HM the Queen Mary of Great Britain
My parents were in short street, so they had to go abroad to economize.

There's only one thing I never did and wish I had done: climbed over a fence.

You are a member of the British royal family. We are never tired, and we all love hospitals.

HM the King Edward VIII of Great Britain, Duke of Windsor
The thing that impresses me most about America is the way parents obey their children.

HG the Duchess of Windsor
Fill what's empty, empty what's full, and scratch where it itches.

For a gallant spirit there can never be defeat.

I'm nothing to look at, so the only thing I can do is dress better than anyone else.

Never explain, never complain.

HM the Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain
We lost the American colonies because we lacked the statesmanship to know the right time and the manner of yielding what is impossible to keep.

The British Constitution has always been puzzling and always will be.

Grief is the price we pay for love.

HRH the Duke of Edinburgh
Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed.

We don't come to Canada for our health. We can think of other ways of enjoying ourselves.

When a man opens a car door for his wife, it's either a new car or a new wife.

HRH the Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon
I suppose, I'll now be known as Charley's Aunt

I'm no angel, but I'm no Bo-Beep either.

My children are not royal; they just happen to have the Queen for their aunt.

The Queen is the only person who can put on a tiara with one hand, while walking down stairs.

I have as much privacy as a goldfish in a bowl.

HRH the Princess Anna, Princess Royal
You are a pest, by the very nature of that camera in your hand.

HRH the Prince of Wales
Father told me that if I ever met a lady in a dress like yours, I must look her straight in the eyes

I learned the way a monkey learns - by watching its parents.

I sometimes wonder if two thirds of the globe is covered in red carpet.

Something as curious as the monarchy won't survive unless you take account of people's attitudes. After all, if people don't want it, they won't have it.

Diana, Princess of Wales
Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.

If men had to have babies, they would only ever have one each.

It is a weakness that I lead from my heart, and not my head.

When you are happy you can forgive a great deal.

HIM the Tsarina Catherine the Great of all the Russia's
I praise loudly. I blame softly.

I shall be an autocrat, that's my trade; and the good lord will forgive me, that's his.

Default Favourite Royal Quotes

I love the dry wit of many members of the various royal families. My favourite is attributed to Diana: “They say it is better to be poor and happy than rich and miserable, but how about a compromise like moderately rich and just moody?”

What are your favourite royal quotes?

"Bugger Bognor" was apparantly the last thing George V said which I quite like. He also said, "I do knight buggers" when asked to invest a well known homosexual with a knighthood. I find that hilarious seeing as his son was a raving nancy having an affair with one of the biggest gay icons of the early 20th century. Then of course, there's the Duchess of Windsor, "One can never be too rich or too thin" which I think is wonderful. Princess Margaret's "I suppose I'll be known as Charley's Aunt" on the birth of the Prince of Wales is quite delicious and anything by Queen Mary is entertaining and inspiring.

Prince Charles once said, "The things I do for England."

I remember Charles Laughton, portraying Henry VIII stated that in the movie of the same name.
