its a very old post :)

but are you sure about that? Lundsberg and Enskilda Gymnasiet yes, but I think Smedslättskolan and Ålstenskolan are completely normal schools. They are located in "good" areas but other than that I dont think theres anything special with them.

In her first years at university, she attended lectures in sociology, jurisprudence, economics, parliamentary history and constitutional law. Later she also attended lectures on the cultures of Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles, the Charter of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, international affairs, international law, history and European law.

He therefore began the year's work experience placement which was prescribed as part of the university course, taking a job at an engineering works at Winsen/Luhe, near Hamburg. At the end of 1948, however, he decided to enrol in the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Hamburg. He sat his first law examination (Referendar) in 1952 and his second (Assessor) in September 1956, after having gained the necessary practical experience in a number of law courts and in a firm of lawyers in Hamburg. During this period he went on a four-month study trip to the United States.

The Prince concluded his studies with a dissertation on the Dutch response to France’s decision under President de Gaulle to leave NATO’s integrated command structure. He was awarded a degree in history in 1993.

The late Queen Juliana:

A small class was formed at Huis ten Bosch Palace on the advice of the educationalist Jan Ligthart so that, from the age of six, the Princess could receive her primary education with children of her own age.
As the Constitution specified that she was to be ready to succeed to the throne by the age of eighteen, Princess Juliana's education proceeded at a faster pace than that of most children. After five years of primary education, the Princess received her secondary education (to pre-university level) from private tutors. On 30 April 1927, Princess Juliana celebrated her eighteenth birthday. Under the Constitution, she had officially come of age and was entitled to assume the royal prerogative, if necessary. Two days later her mother installed her in the Council of State.

From 1927 to 1930, the Princess attended lectures at Leiden University. During this time she lived with a number of other women students in Katwijk. She chose her subjects partly to prepare her for her duties as Head of State, and partly to satisfy her personal interest in literature and religion. She joined the Women Students' Association and took an active part in a wide range of undergraduate activities. Her studies were crowned with the award of an honorary doctorate in literature and philosophy, her sponsor being the renowned historian Johan Huizinga.

The late Prince Bernhard:

The Prince received his early education at home. When he was twelve he was sent as a boarder to the gymnasium in Züllichau and several years later, again as a boarder, to a gymnasium in Berlin, where he gained his leaving certificate in 1929. He went on to study law at the commercial college in Lausanne, and at the universities of Munich and Berlin. He was awarded his Referendar Juris degree in 1935.

Q. Elizabeth was educated at home I believe. She did however attend some classes at Eton College focusing on Constitutional Law (I believe this was private tuition, not with the other students at the all-boy school).

In addition to having been raised in a rather sheltered way (apart from non-aristocratic children), Queen Elizabeth was forced to spend a large part of her growing up years at Windsor Castle due to fears about her security during World War II. Even if her parents had had the inclination to put her in a boarding school (or a local school for the elite), they probably would have been discouraged by security experts.

I'm currently reading Princess Margaret's official biography, and it states that (as iowabelle has already said) Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret were forced to grow up at Windsor.

However, it also states that Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) once confided to a friend that she wished her daughters had been able to attend a 'normal' school with other children, but Queen Mary disagreed and influenced her decision to appoint a governess.

Princess Eugenie first attended nursery school at Winkfield Montessori, Surrey in 1992. She then joined her sister at Upton House School, Windsor. Beatrice and Eugenie were transferred to prep school, Cowarth Park, in Surrey in 1994. In 2001 she passed her Common Entrance Examination and attended St George's School, Windsor for two years. In 2003, Princess Eugenie began her higher education at Marlborough College in Wiltshire where she chose to become a boarder.

Princess Beatrice

Princess Beatrice began her education at Upton House School, Windsor in 1991. From there she and her sister were enrolled at Coworth Park School in Windlesham, Surrey in 1994. Princess Beatrice is currently attending an all-girls school, St. George's School in Ascot, Berkshire, enrolled under the name "Beatrice York." There had been plans to send her to Aiglon College in Switzerland; however, a sex scandal involving the headmaster forced her parents to reconsider. [1] In March 2005, her mother revealed that Beatrice suffers from mild dyslexia and has needed special help with reading and writing in the run-up to her GCSE exams. [2]
In the GCSE examinations that she took in the summer of 2005 (a year later than usual, due to her dyslexia), she achieved A* grades for history and drama, A grades for French and art, and B grades for English literature, English language, mathematics and dual award science.
The Princess takes an active interest in her school community. She sings soprano in the school choir. In May 2006, according to The Royalist, Beatrice was elected to the position of head girl at St. George's School where she is currently studying for her A Levels. A school spokesperson is quoted on The Royalist website as saying: 'This year the school has elected Princess Beatrice of York to be head girl and we are delighted that she has accepted the position.'

Is Princess Beatrice a boarding student like Princess Eugenie or still a day girl at St George's School?

Where is Zenouska Mowatt now attending school?
She used to attend St George's School, Windsor, the same school as Princess Eugenie.

The divorced 36-year-old mother of two, who is the daughter of Princess Alexandra and Sir Angus Ogilvy - who are alleged to be worth £20 million - was reported to be so short of money that she is planning to take her daughter, Zenouska, 12, out of a private school and move her to a comprehensive.

Is she still in a private school?

I went at 5, which was normal for starting at any school. :flowers:

Why? Was it a dyslexia school?

No. Working parents having no time, etc. They wanted me to have a decent Catholic upbringing, good education, etc. So I was placed in a boarding school lead by sisters (primary school) and fathers (secondary school).

:flowers:

It was the time of my life. There still are many of these boarding schools in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Let's remember that this thread is to discuss the boarding schools of royals. If members who attended boarding school would like to discuss their experiences, they should do so in the Members' Corner. Thank you.

Prince Rainier III attended Stowe School in the UK. He attended a prep school also in the UK but I forgot the name. As the tale goes, he deplored his entire experience and spent the better part writing home to beg his parents allowance to go home to Monaco.

Prince Charles attended Cheam School, which is now Cheam-Hawtreys, a merger of two prep schools that were distinct in his day. As stated already, he went onto Gordonstoun. Don't forget about the school in Australia, Geelong, it was a boarding school, although I guess the kids were camping out in the bush, chopping wood, and kangaroo-watching -- or else according to Prince Charles in the Dimbleby biography, dodging headhunting clans.... oh well, the headhunters were in Papau New Guinea....

As well as Riddlesworth Hall and West Heath, Diana attended a Swiss finishing school near Gstaad, Institut Alpin Videmanette (sp?) something or other.

Prince Andrew and Prince Edward attended Heatherdown prep school and Gordonstoun. Viscount Linley also attended Heatherdown I think, but he went onto Bedales for public school. Apparently, Bedales is very artsy, I don't know. I just remember reading that his father hoped he would attend Eton, but he felt better suited in the freer environment of Bedales.

The Earl of Snowdon did in fact attend Eton College.

Captain Mark Phillips was a Marlborough man.

Andrew and Edward also had Commonwealth experiences
