Default Famous Royal Cruise a long time ago...

I recall reading about a royal cruise that took place in sometime in the 1960's. I believe it was sponsored by Queen Frederika of Greece and it was for all the young royal blood to mix (Constantine, Irene, Beatrix, Richard, etc.) It was dubbed the royal matchmaking cruise by reporters.

It's such a fun topic because SO many royals were at this gathering and this was before they all got married so they were fresh and young.:p

Someone recently mentioned the cruise on the benelux board and so this is why I ask. It seems as though pictures of this cruise are out there, but difficult to find. Can some very resourceful person on this board find any pictures and information about this cruise???

These are the only two pictures I've seen so far (thanks to Joris on the benelux board).

I believe in both pictures the ladies are Beatrix and her sister Irene.

I think the one where Beatrix is on the cruise is with her sister Irene and some Bulgarian royal. I'll check it out...

Actually the man beside Beatrix in that picture is Alessandro Prince Borghese. I'm not sure where he's from.

(The Bulgarian royals were there too though.)

Can anyone else find information and pictures of this cruise?

According to the collection of royal postcards on the website of the Royal National Dutch Library, the second picture is taken in Porto Ercole, Italy in 1960. And yes, they identify the man in the picture as Alessandro Borghese.

I assume the picture is taken at Juliana & Bernhard's vacation home there since there is also another picture taken on the same day of Beatrix, Irene, Juliana & Bernhard.

I don't know if this information helps any.

I believe so, and it was at this cruise that Beatix said how lovely it was to be amongst her own sort of people, which was blown out of proportion and which is a remark that is still used today to show that she might be a bit haughty.

I believe the Count and Countess of Paris also attended, with their flock, as did the Hessen-Kassel, Baden and Hohenlohe nieces and nephews of the Duke of Edinburgh.

I image how this cruise would look nowadays...
Who would be the passengers? They should be unmarried...
maybe Victoria, Carl-Philipp and Madeleine of Sweden, the Casiraghi Trio, William and Harry of England...
Who else?
I guess, they would have a lot of fun!

Wouldn't it just be brilliant if Princess Beatrice or Princess Eugenie married Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume? Just wonderful.

Well, considering that their mother is dragging them to parties with people like Kate Moss I doubt it that they will even meet the HGD. They will probably do their best to ruin their reputation in the years to come so they will be completely unsuitable as future Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.

Anyway, back to the cruise: no cruise is complete without the Thurn und Taxis bunch, so they should get an invitation to.

-
And back to the real cruise: I believe Simeon of Bulgaria attended to.

Default Royal Matches -- Guillaume and Charlotte?

Does anyone think that Guillaume of Luxembourg and Charlote Casiraghi would make a good match? Both Catholic. Both within suitable age range. I think that would be a great match. Anyone else?

Usually the Grand-Ducal House has always been strict on appropriate mariages, but the Grand-Duke himself has no any feet to stand on, since his own 'mésalliance' with María Teresa Mestre y Batista, which caused a new ice-age at the Palais Grand-Ducal.

And since the marriage of his own son with a miss Tessy Anthony the Grand-Duke is weaker than ever. How can he insist on an noble or royal marriage?

But Charlotte Casiraghi? No. The Casiraghi's do not mingle at all with the European royal families so how would they meet them?

Default Guillaume of Luxembourg and Charlotte Casiraghi

Henri:

You ask how would they meet? Haven't they already ... at Albert's enthronement? Didn't Guillaume attend the ceremony, the Gala, and didn't he attend w/Albert and Andrea, and Chris Levine the afternoon Soccer match? I got the definite vibe that G was "shopping" ... and what better than Charlotte Casiraghi? The 50-year-old Caroline will have solidified her standing among European royals ... this goes one better than marrying E-A!
