Now, how did Maxima come up with this dress? ;) (pic:Seeger)

Absolutely stunning! the top part looks exactly of the same material and pattern. Wonder if this was intentional or not?

Well, they didn't name her Amalia for nothing ;) I strongly believe it was intentional (though the painting is in Italy, so they haven't seen that one).

wow, wow and wow, what a thread! (moderators, I voted this thread five stars, how come there's only three allocated to the thread right now? Is that due to some sort of average re. everyone's votes?)

I agree this thread should be mandatory for all those history-deprived Dutch Royals (yes royal highnesses Maxima and WA and brothers--bar Friso and Mabel??, I'm referring here to you!)

I agree with you one those, princess Olga!
We should have 5 starts for this magnificent thread and this thread absolutely should be mandatory for some of our lovely royal friends. :D I'm actually quite curious what they know about the histroy of their own family. We could be surprised on that one. (In a good way or in a bad way, I'm leaving that to all of you to decide... ;))

The Queen knows a lot about it, I am sure. I remember reading somewhere that on a state visit to Luxembourg she visited an exhibition where pictures were displayed of the portuguese infantas: Grand Duchess Maria-Anna (grandmother of GD Jean) Archduchess Maria-Theresa, the Duchess of Parma (mother of empress Zita) etc, and the Queen was able to recognise them all (which is wuite hard as they do look alike). I can only assume that her knowledge of the dutch royal history is even better :)

As for her sons....I agree with princess Olga (though the name Catharina-Amalia could have been made up by Amalia of Solms, it sounds very much like her daughters ).

yes definitely Beatrix is very into the history of her family, as are, I suspect, her sisters.(although--off topic, but Margriet is not into Jugendstil-style anything. My dad was once at some sort of coctail reception where Margriet also was. He didn't get to talk to her, but he said he overheard her tell someone else she didn't like Jugendstil because it reminded her of her grandmother's furniture or sth along those lines. Not sure if that would mean she, Margriet, is not into anything related to her family's history..)

And I have always suspected that the name Amalia for WA's first daughter might have been a suggestion from Beatrix. At least, it wouldn't surprise me at all.
