(Great idea for a thread, princess Beatrix!)

I just love this thread already! Thanks for starting it and I will see if I can come up with some contributions as well :) Great idea Princess Beatrix!
BTW Catharina-Amalia really resembles the younger Beatrix IMO

Great pictures Princess Beatrix & Maxie!:)

And Marengo, I too am loving this thread already!:D

I'll try to dig up some pics too, but here are some I posted in another thread of the girls at the palace in (I think) 1950.

That's so cute. :) The sisters always look so caring with Christina. The "little sister" they wanted to protect. :)

another question:
What are the complete names of the 4 sisters?
I just know about:
Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgard

what are the complete names of the others?
christina originally names Marijke, right?

Yes, she was known as Marijke first, but she changed her name into Christina.

The others are named (according to Wikipedia):

Irene Emma Elisabeth
Margriet Francisca
Maria Christina

Does anyone know why Christina changed her name?
I don't think Marijke is that bad ;)

As far as I know it had something to do with the fact that she didn't like her first name, she thought it sounded too childish. But correct me if I'm wrong, of course. :)

From het geheugen van Nederland: the three princesses (no 4 wasn't born yet) attending a gardenparty at Soestdijk Palace, organised by their mother for the youth of Baarn and Soest in 1946:

And in 1947, with Sir Winston (look how Margriet is holding his hand!). Pictures from het geheugen van Nederland.

Thanks alot for sharing this pictures, Marengo! :) The girls were really cute!
It's so lovely to see how similar they all look!

Your welcome :)
Here another picture of them at Soestdijk, with the new-born princess Marijke and Queen Wilhelmina & Crownprincess Juliana.

The Soestdijk-sisters, but in the US, with on the left Jvr. Renee Roell. Renee's mother went in excile with Juliana. Renee's father stayed in The Netherlands where he was active int he resistance and was shot to death by the Nazi's. Renee is married to a canadian (her mother remarried with a canadian as well) but is still Her Majesty's oldest and closest friend and a godmother to the Prince of Orange (and a witness at the wedding of Beatrix).

Those all were new to me. They are wonderful. These girlies were adorable, and I suppose that people from Netherlands must have loved their Royal Family (as they must love the current one too) :) Oh...And by the way: did you notice how similar Queen Beatrix was to his son, Crownprince Wilhelm when a little girl? I think that Princess Amalia is similar to them too.

Vanesa.

Thanks for those Marengo, they are so great. One got to love the on were little Magriet is holding Churchill's hand. :)

Juliana, Irene, Bernhard and Beatrix in The Hague, 1940. They did a tour through the city just a few days before the germans invaded the country (and were widely cheered of course). I believe the family moved from Soestdijk to Huis ten Bosch, The Hague in the winter of 1939/1940.
