The President of the Republic expressed his wish to strengthen the "already excellent" bilateral relations between Lisbon and Oslo. In return, Harald V, who is accompanied by a vast ministerial and enterprise delegation, confirmed the good bilateral relations, but stressed that "there is always space for improvement" and anticipated a reinforcement of the Norwegian touristic flow to Portugal, after this State visit.

PR: Cavaco Silva chama atenção dos Reis da Noruega para "sofisticação tecnológica" de empresas portuguesas - NotÃ*cias Lusa - Sapo Notícias

The President of the Republic, Cavaco Silva, considered today's visit as a very important contribute to the reinforcement of the bilateral relations, and stressed the current "technologic sophistication" of many Portuguese and Norwegian companies.

In his speech during the gala dinner, Cavaco Silva remembered that Portugal was one of the very first countries to recognize the young Norwegian Nation, in 1905. He also remembered that, in 1472, a three-ship maritime expedition, promoted by Kings Afonso V and Christian I, left Bergen, with at least two Portuguese noblemen: João Vaz Corte-Real and Álvaro Martins Homem: "I wish that today we may once again reach together the New World of chances, represented by the reinforcement of our cooperation".

Sonia looks really good --- nice clothes so far --- love the diamond tiara!

King Harald of Norway was given today the keys of Lisboa, by the Mayor, António Costa. In return, the head of the Norwegian State praised the beauty of the Portuguese capital, whom he addressed as the “beautiful city of seven hills”. The King stressed “the memorable hospitality”, the historical architecture, the river, the monuments and the culture.

Beyond the cooperation on fishing and renewable energies, Harald considered that the two nations that share the ocean and its resources, will be able to cooperate in other levels.

The King also made references to the architecture, theater, literature and tourism, as points of common interest between Portugal and Norway.

Harald V concluded his speech, stressing the variety of the program for this State Visit and the cultural nature of it. The King (who visited this morning a supermarket) showed surprise for the enormous variety of fish there was sold.

The Mayor António Costa offered the kings a miniature of the statue that is placed in Terreiro do Paço and in return, he received replica of a 1740 silver piece.
