I was just reading how instrumental King Olav was at bringing the 94 Olympics to Lillehammer. I certainly enjoyed watching the events but don't remember anything about the royals participation.
Does anyone have any pics of the Norweigan royals at this event?

I believe you're thinking of King Harald because King Olav died January 17, 1991.
No, she's quite right in her assessment. The notion of Lillehammer as an Olympic arena was first introduced in 1984 at the Games in Sarajevo. King Olav was quite ardent at pushing it forward. The national politicians were reluctant at backing the idea, but the King saw it as an unique chance to promote Norway.
The rest of the family followed his suit, even after his death.

Hi Mandy, I don't think it was Harald. The International Olympic Committee chooses a host country well in advance. The IOC just announced London for 2012 and its only 1995. I read somewhere that Harald the then Crown Prince was skeptical at the time.
ah norwegienne, thanks. we must have cross-posted. :)

I stand corrected.:) I know that Harald and Sonja put in a tremendous amount of work once the games were awarded to Lillehammer.
