Nuclear watchdog agency leader Mohamed ElBaradei warned that humanity faces a choice between nuclear weapons and survival when he was accepting the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize on Saturday. ElBaradei shared the coveted award with the International Atomic Energy Agency for their drive to control the spread of nuclear weapons, especially to terrorists. The IAEA was represented by the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Yukiya Amano.

Its a very elegant room I think, they have decorated with 6000 carnations and 3000 orchids in tones of yellow and gold

What a wonderful speech Mr El Baradei gave! His family was very moved, and so was I, it was such a touching speech which I hope made many people think. And what a sweet gesture to congratulate the Royal Family to the birth of Prince Sverre Magnus. I was also quite impressed with how well Mr El Baradei pronounced "Sverre Magnus", not bad at all!

unfortunately, they didn't write the part where ElBaradei congratulate the King on Prince Sverre's birth at the begining of his speech.
Did anyone catch that? what did he say exactly?

Well I don't remember exactly what he said, but it was something like "let me begin by congratulating the Royal Family to the birth of Prince Sverre Magnus. We all wish him a long an healthy (or was it happy...) life"... Something in the rounds of that.

yeah, you're right! i just watched ElBaradei speak on CNN. He said, "Let me start by first congratulating the Royal Family on the birth of Sverre Magnus. We all wish him a long and happy life".

it was quite different how he pronounced Sverre than i imagined it. but, i guess he pronounced it right. I thought the "sv" in sverre is spoken quite fast and it was a low "e" at the end, but it somehow sounds like how you pronounced "severus snape from harry potter" but without the "us" on severus.

I'm a terribly shallow person I know, but without MetteMarit or Martha Louise there I can't find much enjoyment in the Oslo Nobel ceremony. the one in Stockholm offered much more to gladden the heart of a royalty watcher.

I thought the ceremony was very elegant and peaceful - exactly what a Nobel Peace Prize ceremony should be like. Mohamed ElBaradei and the IAEA deserved this prize.

anyway, it was a sweet gesture from ElBaradei... and i'm sure many norwegians would appreciate it...

I agree.. the peace prize ceremony is a solemn, sweet, dedicated, and elegant... definitely represent the award.. "peace" :) :)

too bad there's no MM & ML... :(
