The Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of The Netherlands

The new King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands will visit Norway for an introductory visit on October 2nd 2013.

Announcement in Dutch: Koning en Koningin bezoeken Verenigd Koninkrijk, Noorwegen en België - Het Koninklijk Huis

Introductory visit by TM King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands

:norwaystandard::dutchstandard:

TM King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will visit Norway in the frame of their Introductory visits on October 2nd 2013

I´m a bit surprised about these brief introductory visits as I only knew these from republican heads of state before...?! As far as I know Kings and Queens "introduced" themselves, especially to their fellow counterparts from abroad, with full state visits. Is this a new kind of custom, due to the financial crisis or a dutch habit?

Full State Visits at present to the countries scheduled in the series of introductory visits are not opportune as the relations are more then cordial, they are excellent but mostly because the last State Vists haven't been that long ago...So,it would be a waste of time and money to put it bluntly...These short visits from the shortest Reignig to longer Reigning collegues are a good and modern way to introduce in new roles.:)

Did the King fly the plane himself again?
I do like it when he does. He obviously likes to fly and nowadays these must the the only opportunities he has to do so. :D

Looks to be a lovely day for such a visit.

Queen Máxima received the Grandcross in the Order of St. Olaf today from King Harald.
King Willem-Alexander already received it in 1996.

Quite a few lovely pictures from today's visit. Disappointing no hats, any reason for that?
I thought all ladies looked lovely. Queen Sonja's dress was really pretty.

No hats in Spain a few weeks ago either, custom of the country visited or just to loosen up among friends...

From what I read in a thread about an earlier visit, these visits are very informal so I would not look for much "dress up". If I remember right there were no hats meeting QEII.

Nice visit, Queen Maxima look fabulous, as always. I wasn't crazy about M-M choice of hair style, looked kind of thrown together, last minute to me.
Was it just me or did the visit to Spain seem to have more warmth? I really like that the Crown Royal couple met their plane and the closeness between Maxima and Letizia. I thought I might see that between The Crown Prince Couple and King W-A and Queen Maxima, but really didn't see it.

That's the first thing I noticed was the lack of warmth, I wonder why?.they must be all good friends because WA and Maxima were at Haakons 40th....but anyway these visits are good I really like the informality of them all and as usual Maxima looked great as did Mette Marit and Queen Sonja but don't know what was going on with Haakons horrible blue coat!....:whistling:

I don´t think full state visits are only being done between countries whose relations are less cordial. And state visits to Britain and Spain were about 30 years ago:whistling:. Only the last one to Norway was in 2010.
So I think what we see here is another scaling down of ceremonial and protocol which I personally pity. The pics are nice though!

Lack of warmth? Where did you see that?! Haakon and MM have also met the King and Queen at the airport. After that they escorted them to the royal palace where King Harald and Queen Sonja awaited them.

Indeed Wartenberg, the Norwegian CP Couple are very very close friends of Willem-Alexander and Máxima and regularly found here sailing with the whole lot of 'm!

TM know eachother ever since WA was in dipers and his parents and the King & Queen of Norway are the closest of friends. No no,not a lack of warmth at all, contrary.Just a different country different costums, but lack of warmth no way!!
