Lovely pictures. Thanks Misshelen.

The Queen always looks so relaxed when she's on the water.

Is she taking a close up picture of Pieter in that one shot? Poor guy - who wants to be that close to the lens?

thanks for these pictures! I really like the ones where Beatrix is serving soup or sth of the sort to the other folks on "The Groene Draek". Because that's the way I have always imagined her to be in 'real life', or, rather, 'in private': a very motherly-type person, someone who always wants to make sure everyone around her has enough to eat, etc etc.

... a few more from ANP ...

I just love to see pictures of Beatrix with a camera. It reminds me of all those pictures I've seen of her (starting when she was about age 10) when she started to document everything on film (photo or video). I also enjoy seeing Queen Beatrix with Peter - they are so close and friendly and he always has a warm smile on his face.

Very nice pictures! I have been to sail Amsterdam wednesday, saturday and sunday myself and luckily I could see both the Queen as Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven and the Prince of Orange (and the mayor of Amsterdam). I really likes the pictures of the queen pouring soup etc, just like wht the people in the other boats are doing as well, eating and drinking, enjoying each others company and wathcing those amazing ships of course!

August 20 2005 As part of Sail 2005, the Queen christened a boat "Beatrix". The sailboat was given as a gift to the Queen in honour of her Silver Jubilee by the Prinses Beatrix Fonds. It is meant to be used by the physically disabled.

Woooh! So great photos of Her Majesty. She looks really stunning and elegant and so much beautiful of the addition of green and purple.

Colourpress just released these pictures of the Queen - I'm not sure when they were taken. They are kind of fun because they show the Queen looking at some of the displays that have been created in honour of her Jubilee. I wonder if she ever gets used to seeing her picture everywhere?

... ANP has some photos from the event too ... (whatever it was).

I think in the one picture, HM is pointing out a picture of little Catharina-Amalia.

according to JH on the Benelux Royals MB:

'HM visited the "Noordeinde in beeld"manifestation yesterday,The Hague. On occasion of HM's Silver Jubilee,
galeries, shops and all those living at Noordeinde wish to present a work of Art to HM where as HM can choose
out of 12 sculptures on exhibit in 12 different galleries at the Noordeinde.
HM started at "De Nachtwacht"a huge bronze after Rembrandt, and on occasion of the Jubilee placed right in
front of Noordeinde Palace. All figures of the painting are live-size in bronze, executed by two Russian sculptors,
Mikhail Dronov and Alexander Taratinov.'

so that is where the pictures come from.

Bingo! That description sounds like it would fit with the pictures. Thank you so much Marengo.:) Nothing was announced on the royal website about the visit, so I was beginning to wonder just when these pictures were taken. Mystery solved.

So in honor of her 25th Jubilee, I have heard people mention that the Queen gave a series of rather candid interviews. I've seen a couple of the videos myself on NOS, but I was hoping that maybe someone here could translate some of what Queen Beatrix said in those interviews. Or, are there transcipts of the interviews in English somewhere???

Sept. 19 2005 The Queen is presented with a book that has been published in honour of her Jubilee year. The book (to be made available for free to all those who turn 18 during Jubilee year) outlines the Dutch form of government (constitutional monarchy), historical development of its constitutional law, how citizens can exert influence, etc.

I believe her majesty wore that suit during the statevisit in Thailand as well, not a winning combination I would say.

btw during this visit two boys of 17 and 18 years old threw one egg at the queens entourage, they have been arrested by the police.

Just my words , marengo,The clothes the queen is wearing is not verry flattering for her. BTW: last news about the egg trowing boys is that the stay in jail and they could get 7 and a half years for throwing the egg.

Someone walking around with a gun will be released by the police!

Good point Dutch Royal! Gosh, the Dutch justice system sounds like the Canadian one!

I agree with you & Marengo that this outfit isn't one of her better ones ...

The whole egg throwing incident got me to wondering if there are parts of the Netherlands that are more pro-Monarchy than other parts, or is support pretty much the same in every region?

These days I do not think the difference is that big. But during the start of Wilhelmina's reign especially the north (friesland and groningen) had many inhabitants who were socialists, they were less sympathetic to the RF then other people in the country. Nowadays I would say that the (orthodox) christian communities are even more enthausiastic then the rest of the country. The mainly live in Zeeland (south west) and Gelderland (mid-east).

Amsterdam traditionally used to be anti-orange, as the regents of the city didn t like the stadholders involvment in 'their' city.

;) In my family the rf was not very popular. The reson they gave was that they get paid from our taxmoney. Well, they are right but they can help it if the are born in that family???

Thank you Marengo. I find it interesting that the different regions with their (I assume) different histories, for the most part, are equally supportive of having a monarchy. The situation is quite different here in Canada, where, generally speaking, French-Canadians (understandably) are not so enthused about having a British monarch as their Queen.

I was reading somewhere in this forum that Beatrix currently has something like a 90% approval rating from the Dutch - that is pretty amazing!

Thanks for the laugh Dutch Royal. I guess you are the rebel in your family for liking the RF.:) As far as tax money goes, just reading the paper here in Canada, I see lots of ways public funds are wasted. It seems like every month or so, a new scandal pops up. I imagine it is pretty much the same in your country.

Having someone like your Queen, who tries to encourage and support what is "good" in society (e.g. the arts, charities, responsible industry, environmental awareness, international relations etc.) to me doesn't seem like a total waste of money. But then, I'm not the one paying Dutch taxes.;)
