The Hague - At Palace Huis ten Bosch, on Monday noon, Queen Beatrix at Erekruis present the house order of Orange to Sieuwert Verster. The gentleman Verster is manager of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century. He got pinned up the Erekruis as a token of large appreciation for its advices on musical and cultural grounds to the Royal family.

31-05-2006 Militaire Willemsorde - Queen Beatrix has handed out the Militairy Willemsorde and bronze lion to the Polish parachutistbrigade of late Stanislaw Sosabowski at the Binnehof in The Hague
The Polish parachutistbrigade has helped the dutch people during Market Garden in 1944.

She attached the ribbon of the Militairy Willemsorder 4th class to the regimental standard of the polish parachutist brigade.

Better late then never I suppose. In a way the Queen fullfills one of her fathers last wishes, he tried for years to get the Polish brigade recognised for their contribution. There was quite a lot of publicity about this, and the event was even shown live on television.

From what I have read the polish brigade got the blame (from supreme command) for the failed operation Market Garden in 1944, which was unjust. As I said, Prince Bernhard, many war veterans and others 'battled' for years to get these heroes recognised in The Netherlands, and finally they are.

Apparently Queen Wilhelmina already signed the decision to give the Polish brigade this honour in 1946!!! But under British pressure it had to be withdrawn.
