She is a swimmer. Per the interview, she almost drowned as a child and had a cousin that drowned so why shouldn't she promote water safety and learning how to swim. Drowning is a very common thing. A lot of people who are lower income don't know how to swim. She knows more about swimming and water safety than water conservation or delivery of clean water.

:previous: Drowning is indeed very common and for some unknown reason, here in NZ school swimming pools are being decommissioned at a frightening rate and our death by drowning is escalating alarmingly. It seems the Ministry of Education does not see any correlation between the two facts.

The fact that we are a country totally surrounded by sea and with more than a few really fantastic lakes and rivers to boot makes being able to swim essential. The beaches, lakes and rivers are our lifestyle with swimming, skiing, paddle boarding, surfing, windsurfing, yachting, kayaking, canoeing and rafting. being the summer 'thing' as I imagine it is in Monaco and the South of France.

The younger children learn to swim the better and any programme that promotes water safety is essential in my book

Some years ago Albert talked about the roll of the woman he married wouldn't be like a royal wives. He said something like it would however be nice to be able to share the job with her. If I come across it again I will post it. IMO Albert left things as they were involving his sisters in things his mother started. When Albert was young Grace had to ask Rainier permission to see Albert and his sisters were her responsibility. She lived in Paris with the girls in school and Albert stayed in Monaco. I see nothing wrong with Charlene staying with the children as much as she can because they grow so fast. Many working mothers like myself wished we could have stayed with our children. If the things everyone feels she should be seen at was required I have no doubt Albert would tell her she has to attend. It's also likely Albert wants Charlene to have the time with the twins due to how he views the roll as a mother. Just because we don't see Charlene it doesn't mean she isn't working. Don't forget many of you commented how much she worked compared to other royal spouses before you got pregnant.

my opinion is still that whatever happens in Monaco is with the full agreement of P.Albert, so to me P.Albert and P.Charlene have discussed things and came up with this way of working which suits both of them...

....however ;)...

Just because she does highlights of events of events doesn't mean that she's not full-time. Victoria has done the same thing in the last few weeks.

imo the point is that P.Victoria has recently given birth and will be in full event-mode in no time (she was after P.Estelle's birth, so I think it will be the same now), the point with P.Charlene is that the children are almost two and she is still on "post-pregnancy" schedule :flowers:
(P.Victoria isn't the spouse of reigning monarch so even if she did less it would be understandable, but if there's one person I don't see anyone questioning their work-ethic it's P.Victoria)

Don't forget many of you commented how much she worked compared to other royal spouses before you got pregnant.

I think what was said was that P.Charlene did more before she got pregnant, but meaning more than she does now; I don't think she worked that much compared to other spouses before either, but to be honest, that's understandable because Monaco is somewhat smaller than most other european countries and therefore there are less events to attend and P.Albert has a tremendous workload himself (and P.Caroline is active as well) so it's not about the comparisons to the other europeans imo :flowers:

Good to see she gets out and about :) glad she doesn't suffer from healthissues like some speculated in the media after her recent notable absences

^^^ previous. A somewhat unusual and different event for the Princess, but a nice idea, I think. It seems she was chosen for her elegance, grace and passion, according to another article. A beautiful and recent picture of her too.

Hopefully the couple will be invited on a cruise some time...!

Rolene Strauss, a former Miss South Africa (2014) and Miss World (2015), posted this pic of her and Princess Charléne on Instagram, taken last night in Monaco: https://instagram.com/p/BF96Ov0CJWD/

Another pic I found on Instagram. It appears to have been taken at a private event on a yacht the night before (Friday): https://instagram.com/p/BF68SUlHDPK/

On the Palace's Facebook page there's a lot of criticism against PC for not attending the most recent religious event, but one poster pointed out, interestingly, that PC attended this ceremony last year alone.

Fact remains that she has been absent from too many important events this year, and we would like to see her by Prince Albert's side.

Nobody forced Charlene to become Princess of Monaco, lead a life of luxury and privileges, being surrounded by staff, not having to worry about financial matters for the rest of her life etc etc.

If she doesn't like the pressure of being a public person or the duty or responsibility she could have left before or she could leave now but she doesn't. Charlene is Princess of Monaco and not a full time mother, it's just an excuse not to attend when it doesn't suit her.

And just to mention Charlene's name together with Mary or especially Letizia when it comes to duty while being a mother is a total joke. There is no comparison, not even remotely.
Charlene is trying to lay her perspiring heroine motherhood trip.Just like she laid her perspiring heroine I am gonna do it my way Princess trip.
This isn't the assembly line in factory.. How difficult is it to be Princess? not difficult at all. What a false mockery of the real world.. prople who struggle to raise families start to finish.

You know, she has twins. Being a princess is the nonsense, being a mother is the job. And how she feels is her business. These events can go forward without her and sometimes without him. You don't know if a kid is sick and she is worried. And religious events are just another hoo ha for the church.

Being a princess is a job, and one they are well-paid to do. They represent their country and their people. Religious events are very important in some countries, and Monaco is one of them. Its extremely insulting to call the event 'hoo haa'. I don't see the need to insult a religion and its practices .

Yes being a mother is extremely important role. But many mothers work and raise kids. And if she has missed all these events because her kids are sick, I'd be taking them to a specialist because they have been sick for five months.

She's entitled to her choices but i don't think the reasons that we as"spectators" come up with are very usable...:
- if she doesn't attend a "gala" it's because she's so religious now that she doesn't want to attend overly showy events
-if she doesn't attend a religious event it's because that's just a church affair
- she isn't into glamour, but at the same time there are very glamorous and posed photo-shoots
- she might be ill, but at the same day pics are posted from another event
- it's because she's a mother of twins, but most pics we see of the informal setting there are nannies (plural!) around the twins all the time

but as these are all "our" excuses, and as long as the palace doesn't feel an explanation is needed, i think we'll have to get used to a princess with a different idea of workload then we are used too...

She seems to embrace some sides of being a princess ...clothes , travel but not doing the actual job .... Least we have Caroline

You've summed up my thoughts exactly.

Just to add - I think this arrangement suits Albert and Charlene, I really wonder what his sisters make of it.

P Albert has said even before their wedding that his wife would not be expected to fulfill the traditional role of a Princess. Maybe this is what he meant. I do believe there must be a good reason for P Charlene's absence from the Fete Dieu.

It reallt shows how low the bar has been set, if we can discuss Charlene's no-show that actual "current events". I am really dissapointed and disechanted with her. Of course I have my opinions about the matter, but it would be no use to discuss them, not only because it would most likely be speculation, but because it won't change Charlene's attitude anytime soon.

Princess Charlene was ill and could not attend the Fete Dieu procession, but she visited the handicaped people last saturday , With Albert she received the people at the gala at the palace and she was present to the Grand Prix.

There is the article in monaco Matin about the next christening of the most big cruise ship in the world by Princess Charlene which will be the godmother of this big ship.

Because, I was at Monaco during the grand Prix and I know somebody who attended the visit to the handicaped people saturday afternoon, she said me that the public did not know if charlene could be present because, she was ill during all the week but she was better at the end of the week.

I was there as well for all the week long and I've heard other things about her absence.

I've come to the conclusion that illness is just a pitiful excuse... It can't be believable that every time Charlene misses important event it's because she is feeling unwell... I'm sorry.

I think that there is too much speculation about Charlene. Her absence was due to illness. That's it. She knows exactly what her duties are. Apart from that as an athlete she was certainly trained to fulfill her obligations.

princess Charlene visited the maternity for the motherday, There is a report on monaco Channel, I hope we will have some photos of this visit .

Yes, Noda, I hear also a rumor , a good rumor that we cannot tell here because it would be deleted.
The person who said me that she was ill, is not a liar , he is handicaped and he was hoping to see the princess with Albert as the last year, after the visit of the couple, he was very happy to see her. but this last week, she draw the hens of the rugby for the rugby events, ( she is the president of the honor comittee) , she visited the handicaped people on the Grand Prix, she received with Albert all the sportpeople , singers and important people at the reception at the palace and she was present to the grand Prix. and she visited the maternity for the mother day.
very busy days she was everywhere apart the fete dieu procession , she was ill.

Here is the article about the visit of P Charlene at the maternity , the photo is on the front page, hope we will have other photos
