Apparently not. Personally, I find the idea of a civil ceremony and a religious ceremony cumbersome. Why not have "one stop shopping". Especially when there are state churches in Europe?

"Cumbersome" is a good word that comes to mind for me as well...I notice that this is required in Belgium as well. :ermm:

I wonder why...has it something to do with the fact that these are predominantly Catholic countries?

I know that this was not always(historically) a requirement in Europe.

PS..My GOODNESS CW looks gorgeous in those pictures above...I am losing my mind over those earrings...I love them!

In France in monaco also it is the law, only the civil wedding counts, you are not married if you marry in a religious wedding and everybody must to marry to two weddings, one civil, one religious, only the civil counts.
In ZDF heute leute, there is an interview of Prince Albert and Charlene, they speak about heir wedding and Charlene said how they meet and she wants very quickly chidren because she loves the children. Prince said I agree and she answers' I hope so

I read on one of the local websites, that on 7/1 and 7/2 it has only rained 2 or 3 times in about the last 30 years. Monaco has an arid and moderate, temperature wise, climate. That's why everyone goes to the Riviera. It's also very beautiful.

If only the civil counts, couldn't you just do a civil wedding then? Why does it HAVE to be both?

I've been to Monaco...maybe 15 years ago and what i remember of Monaco is it's beauty...warm weather, tropical splender, the water, the casino...beautiful little country.

here in france and in Monaco, it is the same law, there are persons who don't want to marry in a religious ceremony, they only just marry in a civil wedding, but the persons who are religious (catholic or protestant or orthodox) marry after the civil ceremony in the religious ceremony, but the first wedding is the civil wedding after we have the religious ceremony. and never the religious ceremony before the civil ceremony, always the civil wedding first and the religious ceremony after. all the people must marry like this. For the church if you are not married in a religious wedding, you are not weeded before God. Prince Albert and Charlene must marry like anybody, for the civil 'civil ceremony) for God(religious ceremony), I know it is difficult to understand for the foreighn people, but it si like this, it is the law.

Yes KittyAtlanta, the couple who is just married in a civil wedding, his wedding is not recognized by the church. It is like they are not married for the church

I'm not at all upset that Wills and Kate won't be at the Monaco wedding.

I want to see Albert and Charlene.

Prince William and Kate will be in USA visit during the wedding, in Point De Vue, it is said that Prince Edward and princess Sophie of Essex will be at the wedding of Monaco.

I do know that the Roman Catholic Church does not recognize civil marriages as valid for Catholics and that is not just in Europe, but everywhere.

So maybe Albert must be married by the laws of the State and the Church, since he is of course a Catholic Head of State.

Thanks melina-premiere.:)

AMEN TO THAT, KittyAtlanta!

I never expected the Cambridges to be there anyway..CW told Tatler that she is becoming good friends with Sophie, Countess of Wessex...and the Wessexes attended PA's enthronement ceremonies so maybe they will be at the wedding too. :)

Sophie and Edward have it made...they get to attend ALL the glittering parties and weddings in the European Royal Courts that the Queen and the Prince of Wales cannot or will not go to!

So for your religion you may need both but for law you at least need civil-great I get it now, I thought from your earlier post both were required by law ....so now I'm less confused, thanks for explaining :)

Yes- Kate and William will be in Canada so probably Countess and Earl of Wessex will go, they're friends with all these Royals too having gone to Victoria and Daniels and Fred and Marys I think

OMG, that is honestly, hands down, the absolute very best commemorative coin I've ever seen. They nailed it!!!!

Usually these coins make the couple look haggard, old, weird, totally unrecognizeable, but in this case, they actually got it right! :heart1:

Nadine, Princess Caroline and Prince Ernst-August were not separated at that time, so it wasn't unusual for them all to be together.

But now they ARE separated, and unless EA and PA are closer than we realize, I don't see any reason why he would be at this wedding.

His two sons..perhaps. EA himself...what would be the point?

It's so touching to see how Caroline wears her emotions on her sleeve..despite her legendary elegance. And was that Charlotte crying too?? BTW...her then-boyfriend Felix Winckler was quite a cutie!

BTW...that PA/CW commemorative coin was PERFECT! I was appalled at the way the one for William/Kate made the bride look...she was not even recognizable!

But Monaco got it right.

The commemorative coins are beautiful!! I remember the one for Crown Princess Victoria you could barely tell it was her but this almost looks like a picture! I wonder if we will have a giveaway of these coins too! ;)

I agree, the coin for William & Catherine was awful on her, didn't do her any justice!

Charlene's title for a day

We know that the religious ceremony is one day after the civil ceremony. For that one day and night what is the title of Charlene Wittstock? I mean, she is officially the sopuse of the Prince. Will she enter the church (or courtyard in this case) as Princess Charlene or Charlene Wittstock?
Thank you.

As monegasque law allows for a civil marriage only, she will be Princess Charlene of Monaco the moment she marries the prince civilly. But for Roman Catholics she will only be the "real" wife of the prince the moment they accept the sacrament of matrimony in front of the priest. So when she enters the church she is by law already Princess Charlene but for the church she isn't yet. Though there is the concept of marriage "in proxy" - which means that people are married the moment they promise each other marriage according to the Chruch law - they priest is only the witness. Thus she might be his wife already on entering the church and this marriage is just witnessed on repeating the promise in front of a priest.

Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock's Wedding Television Coverage

Many details on Princely wedding in Monaco have been discussed so far.I've started this question separately as I am interested to know which channels will cover precisely the wedding ceremony. Will they cover only civil ceremony or religious one(the other aspects, concert etc.)?
I am pretty sure the basic French channels will cover this ceremony. How about British,American,Italian or other channels?
I wish to know more details on the broadcast and programms connected with.
Thank You in advance.

The Monaco Info and Tmc will cover the civil wedding and the festivities after the ceremony.
All the french channels will cover the religious ceremony all the afternoon, for seing the personalities and royals arriving in the coutyard but Tmc will follow the coverage untill the diner and firework
There will be internet which will cover the civil and religious cermonies and the festivitis concert and so, it was written in a tv newspaper
Almost al the tv of Europa will cover the religious ceremony and the processsion to the Sainte Devote
For the usa and canada, I don't know if a channel will make the coverage, I know that tv monde a channel in french language could make the coverage, we could find it in Quebec.
Nowadays, for the tmc tv monaco info, french channels we are sure, for the tv of europa we don't know the the name of these tv.
I read somewhere that you tube will cover the two weddings.
I think you will know a little more on Juni.
I recall, I followed the wedding of Princess Victoria of Sweden on a german tv, because none of the french tv followed this big event and after, I went on the internet to continu to watch the dinner and so

Hi, Moonmaiden23, one can always hope! :) After all they have never *officially* announced their separation, thus there is always a chance of reconciliation, especially when family comes together, like at a wedding. :)

(...)

ps: lol, Moonmaiden, that last pic was not Felix, it was Charlotte's stepbrother, Christian de Hanover, with her. :)

Paul Masseron is the Monegasque Government's Councillor for the Interior, and yesterday morning he was invited to the Yacht Club by the Press Club de Monaco, in order to answer questions about the impending wedding.
PM is responsible for security over the wedding period.
There will be 520 policemen, but Monaco normally already has a high level of security.
Masseron explains that "Monaco will be open to visitors, but there will be a high level of security..... Monaco and security are a couple."

There will also be security in the air....
