w&k doesn't have to makes their lives and their work around a&c...

What? The Duke and Duchess have to wait for Prince Albert to marry Charlene so they can do their duties? You have to be kidding...

No I'm not kidding, they aren't doing any duties now, and they won't be doing any duties after the tour so why make it at the same time as the wedding? The British Royal Family has no courtesy towards other royals, they think they are the only royals. No other royals undertook official tours during Crown Princess Victoria's wedding last year, did they? And it's not like the Duke and Duchess have a very busy schedule, they don't do much anyway, in the way of royal duties...

I think it was rather rude of the British Royal Family to book the tour around the time of the wedding, knowing that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attract a lot of attention they could have been courteous and let Albert and Charlene have their own moment! The wedding date was marked and booked long before, the tour was, why they decided to overlap the two, really beats me!!

Actually, the tour have been plan a year in advance, the Prime Minister of Canada just extended the invitation to Catherine after William and Catherine got engage. And why shouldn't they go to Canada during Canada day?

The British Family have to be invited to do an official tour of the commonwealth countries. The schedule is decided by the British Government, Canadian Government and the foreign press office.

Well, if that's how you feel. Whatever. I don't think that an official trip by Will & Kate has anything to do with what goes on in Monaco. The press interested in the wedding will cover the wedding, irregardless of what else is going on and irregardless of how they get the stories, be it covered personally or by purchasing photos/stories from photo agencies and newswires.

It's a good job Will and Kate had set their wedding day.

It took Albert three times to get his wedding date right !!

Now that's what I would call being impolite to his guests.

Not a problem, as the guest list hadn't been compiled yet.

Love the car, great engineering for a great looking, transparent, yet safe vehicle.

As I have stated before, I am glad W&C won't be attending the Monaco wedding. I want A&C to have their day without someone else's spectacle.

Over on Sartorial Splendor, it is mentioned that one of Albert's wedding gifts to Charlene is (or may be, can't remember) a new tiara. Hummmm.........

I hope it is alright if I copy pasted the order/details of the Civil Wedding Ceremony over here:

Dans une semaine

4 pm : Monegasque and their families assemble in the Palace Square.

5 pm : Celebration of the civil wedding of H.S.H. Prince Albert II and Miss Charlene Wittstock by His
Excellency Mr Philippe Narmino, President of the State Council and Registrar of the Sovereign Family, in
the Throne Room of the Prince’s Palace.
The marriage certificate is placed on a marble table used only on special occasions. It is then recorded in a civil
register belonging to the Sovereign Family which is kept at the Palace.
The marriage certificate is filled in by hand by a calligrapher.
The doors of the Throne Room remain open in acknowledgement of the public (in the legal sense of the term)
nature of this moment, a couple united in the presence of all.
When Miss Charlene Wittstock stands and H.E. Mr Philippe Narmino pronounces the phrase “I now pronounce
you husband and wife”, Miss Charlene Wittstock will enter into the Grimaldi family and will become Princess
of Monaco.

6.00 pm : The Brass Band plays the Formal March, “Princess Charlene's Anthem” composed in homage to the Princess.
As they start to play, the window of the Salon des Glaces will open and the monogram, “AC” will appear on all
the screens in the Palace Square.
H.S.H. Prince Albert II and the Princess Charlene appear at the Palace window.

Kitty, have you seen the courtyard?...fascinating ,non?

I just got a lump in my throat reading that.

I watched it just now...tented just like the ancient Flavian Amphitheatre! I am so envious of the guests!

I will be stuck to the TV 2 days in a row. Don´t know if this is a good thing :D
The Eagles concert, can I see this on the net?

I think this is not meant to be a tent. The French word is voile which comes from Latin velum - literally a sail ....or a veil...

Guess the Canadian government who extended the invitation to Prince Willaim on the day his engagement was announced just didn't think to ask Monaco if they would be offended.

July 1st is Canada Day which is one of the more important functions the Duke and Duchess will attend. The date is fixed and could never be changed just because the Prince of Monaco chose to get married the same weekend:bang:

This is not the first time that the British Royal Family (and other RF) slaps the Monegasque Royal family in the face. Most recently at the wedding of William and kate, they put Albert, a reigning monarch behind the deposed royal families of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, and next to the Serbian Royal family. And I wouldn't be surprised if we see no British representation at this wedding, just as there was none at his parents. So this whole tour thing is just the icing on the cake, and shows where the BRF places foreign relations with it's peers.

The focus of the BRF is on their duties in the UK and The Commonwealth, which is as it should be. Continental events are not of major importance to the BRF or the British public.
In 1956 no reigning royalty attended the wedding. They had to make do with ex King Farouk and the Aga Khan.
The Queen was represented at Rainier's fuineral by the Duke of York and at Albert's enthronement by the Earl and Countess of Wessex. I would expect similar appropriate representation at next weekends wedding. I doubt if the Grimaldi family would feel slighted by The Queen sending one of her children to his wedding, much less should he feel slighted by the fact the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be on an official visit to a country that they may one day be King and Queen of.

None of it means anything. They will all get coverage, because it is celebrity, not for any other reason. If Charlene is a stunning bride, which I bet she is, her picture will be splashed everywhere. Kate will also catch eyes if her outfits are great. Other than that, no one will give much notice.

burnt, thanks so much for all the links you've provided, as I finally had time to catch up with this thread and noted some wonderful posts by you (& a deleted one by me, oh my! :D). :flowers:

Anyhow, the post about the 10,000 multi-colored roses from Ecuador gathered from 35 farms left me breathless, but the link you posted of the courtyard made me cry, I'm soooooooooooo looking forward to this wedding!!!!! I feel like singing!

After all the craziness that's been going on in the world the past two years -- flocks of birds falling dead from the sky, tons of fish washing up dead at different spots across the globe, BP oil spill (worst one ever & the catalyst), giant cracks & sinkholes appearing across the earth's surface, massive amounts of flooding, deadly tornados ruining rural areas & cities, extreme amounts of civil unrest across the globe, typhoon & Fukishima, flooding & quakes down Under, huge wildfires burning across the southwest, volcanic activity in Japan & Chile, nuclear plants in America at risk as I type by flooding in Nebraska, etc. etc. etc. -- FINALLY, there is something to cheer about, and be *happy* about, the wedding in Monaco in less than 1 week!!!!!! Ahhhhh, I simply cannot wait! I wish all of us here at TRF could get together & celebrate, but being online at the same time is the next best thing imho. :flowers:

Here's to looking forward to chatting with you all before, after, and during the celebration. :)

ps: I too read about Albert perhaps buying Charlene a brand new tiara, and I'm over the moon, because I simply do not know what to expect, and that's exactly the way I like it. Surprise me, just as Viktoria & Daniel did....ahhh....:heart1:

Ah, too bad you won't be around for the wedding :( , but enjoy the holidays and the summer! :flowers:

I truly have enjoyed the links & info. you've provided, put a smile on my face and a tear in my eye when apropos, you have a good heart, burnt.

Take Care!

I'm not entirely sure if you are joking or not....but I think that William and Kate - as representatives of the Queen of Canada - scheduled their visit around Canada Day, which falls on July 1. That's not only in line with recent tradition, but considerate, respectful and appropriate.

ETA: This has pretty much already been said. But if it helps, in their recent interview with Hello! Charlene and Albert pretty much dismissed Kate and William as unimportant, so I doubt they care what the British couple are doing.
