With the announcement that Princess Charlene and Prince Albert are expecting their first child at the end of this year, it's time to guess the sex as well as any potential name and the godparents the baby's parents may choose.

What do you think?

**

I think the baby will a girl. Grace will be one of her names!

I hope they include Grace in her name if they do have a girl. As for Godparents, i'm not overly sure which royals they are close to. I know Sophie was invited by them to the Monaco Grand Prix in 2012 and they are reportedly close so perhaps Sophie Wessex as a godparent. Other than that i'm not really sure.

A little girl with Grace or Patricia among her names :flowers:.

Godmother : Princess Caroline of Hannover
Godfather : Gareth Wittstock

Wonderful news! I think they're gonna have a little girl!:p

For a little Princess:

Charlotte Grace Lynette Caroline.

For a little Prince:

Rainier Louis Albert Michel.

I don't know about the godparents. Maybe Princess Caroline and one of The Princess' brothers.

I think Charlotte should be the godmother. She is closer to Charlene's age.

Boys names : Louis/Albert or Rainier
Girls names Louise/Grace/Marguerite

Godparents : Princess Caroline & maybe a Spanish Royal as Albert's godmother was Queen Victoria Eugenia.

I'm hoping for a girl. Monaco could do with some changes as to inheritance

We already have a Charlotte in the current Monegasque Family. So I do not think, that this Name will be selected. But: All others Sound wonderful.

i have the impression it will be a boy, but wouldn't it be nice for them to have a little girl! would she inherit the throne?

i think both godparents will be catholic, but don't know A+C enough to know who they may chose. charlene is a good friend of maxima, and maxima is catholic and queen, so it fits the bill for godmother of a future monarch. however, given maxima is queen to a protestant country, it may not be felt right to ask her to be godmother...

A little Prince Florestan or Prince Honore would be lovely.

But Albert with a little princess would be adorable!

I'm really glad for the couple.

I think Queen Maxima will be the godmother (or one of the godmothers, can't a person have more than one?)

:previous:Yes carlotta, if the baby is female she would bear the title of The Hereditary Princess of Monaco, a title Caroline bore until Albert's birth and she also currently holds. In Monaco, he principle of male-preference primogeniture is used.

I also believe Maxima is a strong contender. Since the princely couple is visiting them next week, it might provide an excellent opportunity.

You're right, I completly forgot about the girl.

Maybe Louise.

Actually from what I've been told here during the time of Princess Beatrix's abdication is that Netherlands is not a protestant country, it's half Catholic, half protestant but its ruling family happens to be protestant.:flowers:

I have to wonder if a girl can rule Monaco, though. Given that Monegasque women can't enter the casino without a male companion, it makes me think that Monaco might need a male to be able to bring the jetset people whatsoever!

Congrats (what a relief it must be..)

Name-wise my first guess was Alexandre, but i just realized that he alreadt has a son with that name so i'll ponder about that one ;)
If it's a girl i'm pretty sure Gracia is somewhere in the names..

Godparent: my guess would be P.Caroline is a sure bet (she will still be heir next...although i wouldn't dare calling her "the spare" to her face ;) )

I don't like Rainier, and Grace would be too much of a burden as a first name. Since Caroline named her kids after Rainier's parents, the child could be named after Grace's parents - Jean or Marguerite. Other nice family names on Albert's side are Charles, Maxence, Jacques, Francois, Antoine, Claudine, Josephine, Louise, Isabelle, Auerelie, Bianca, Jeanne, Catherine, Ghislaine, Alice or Elisabeth. Her brother name Sean is Irish for Jean. The child could be named after her parents too - Michel or Lynette. Or you can honour both families - Jean Michel for a boy and Marguerite Lynette for a girl.

Are women not allowed to inherit the throne in Monaco?

Yes they are, up until now P.Caroline was heir and she could have reigned in her own right.
Other than other european monarchies being monarch (prince or princess) of Monaco is not just a formaility but is basically being the CEO of a large company; however that's something women can do equally well as men :flowers:

I like the name of the wife of the prince Albert I, it was Alice, a beautiful name. and for a boy, I think to the name of Charles, there was the prince Charles III of Monaco

I'm so pleased for them both, wonderful news for the couple.

Just a question, if its a girl does she take precedence over a young brother?

Seeing that Caroline is after Albert in the l-o-s and with the Casiraghi's Charlotte is after Pierre, I assume that right at this moment the younger brother will take precedence...
They might change that in the future however like happened in several european monarchies..

I really hope this child helps her to feel more comfortable in her role as a First Lady ...

The name game ... I opt for Antoine Rainier Albert for a boy. Then I have two options for a girl: Catherine Charlotte Gracia or Aurelia Gracia.

HSH Princess Patricia Lynette Antoinette of Monaco
HSH Prince Michel Sean Rainier of Monaco

Godparents: HRH The Princess of Hannover, Sean Wittstock, Donatella Knecht and friends.

I think the baby will be a boy since the latest additions to the Grimaldi Family have both been boys (Sasha and Raphael), although personally I'd like it to be a girl. Some name suggestions:

Girls
Antoinette Honorine* Athénaïs* Marie
Florestine* Aurelia Charlene Caroline
Grace Ghislaine Marguerite Lynette

Boys
Florestan Albert Charles Rainier
Louis Jacques* Michael Honoré
Joseph Louis Albert Pierre

* = Princess Honorine, Marchioness of La Tour du Pin.
* = Princess Athénaïs, Marchioness of Louvois.
* = Princess Florestine, Duchess of Urach.
* = Prince Jacques I.

A little Prince Florestan or Prince Honore would be lovely.

But Albert with a little princess would be adorable!

I agree on Florestan, it's such a handsome name! I remember guessing it for Raphael or Sasha, but that didn't happen. I think it and other forgotten about historical names should make a come back, especially if Albert and Charlene have a girl, because there were a lot of beautiful names amongst the Monegasque Princesses.

I'm not sure about the godparents, but perhaps one of the Casiraghis, Caroline, Stephanie or one of the relatives of Princess Grace, although I'm not sure how close they are to her family.

I am pretty sure they would not name a girl after Florestine of Urach ... The two branches of the family had quite a dispute concerning succession rights ...
