To say that the future princess of Monaco has to learn more than one new language is, imo, an atempt to put the bar so high as to wish her to fail. If PA wants to marry her, he will regardless of some peoples opinions or their expectations of who and what she should be.
Of course I agree with you that he can and will marry whoever he wants, but I think after all this time he also wants it to last and thus he would probably chose someone who does not have people against her (like NC would have had) from the beginning. The more suitable she is, the easier it is for her in her daily life. Any relationship will encounter its problems all by itself sooner or later. So you don't really need an extra difficulty added by people not accepting you in your daily life. That would most certainly put a strain on the greatest love. Also don't be illusioned by the welcoming and understanding of the Monegasque. At first they would be happy for him to get married and have kids, but if she has no particular qualities to fullfill the job, she will have a tough life. People will never say to a journalist what they think about the Grimaldis. But just remember, even Steph is not that popular and respected in MC (despite what some mags write about it). And PG also encountered massive opposition in her early years in MC after the first enthusiasm over the wedding had calmed.

Also I am not trying to put the bar high for any possible candidate. It is PA himself that has put it this high by looking for miss perfect.

I for one would be just happy to see him marry a decent woman with brains and education and some moral standards.

I haven't heard or read that there is opposition to Charlene. No one even knows her enough to judge her. She's only come to light as someone in PA's life in the last week or two and I don't know what would make her so unsuitable in the minds of some people. She has had a career in swimming. Does that make her less qualified than PG? No. Does it make her less qualified than Mette-Marit (imo the least deserving of being crown princess)? No, it doesn't. Charlene would make as good a princess as the other commoners from varying backgrounds who have recently married into several royal families. :)

And how do we know that CW is not a decent woman with brains and education and some moral standards? She obviously had the discipline and commitment to become a champion swimmer in her own country and to have even competed in the Olympics. We know she hasn't been caught doping so as far as we can tell there are no drugs in her past. Lets just reserve judgment until we know more about her and whether PA will decide on her as his wife. If he does decide on CW, a little support and less sniping at someone none of us knows or will ever know would be nice.

No one is casting aspersions on CW's character. In fact, the tone of the most recent postings is now more of curiosity about what kind of person CW is. Right now, she seems to be a mystery except for the fact that she is a strong supporter of PDA and is not what you call discreet (announcing to the press, that yes, she is sleeping with PA) is not what I would consider to be tactful. Despite the change in attitudes in the past 50 years, that was too much information for general publication. Certain assumptions will be made; there is no reason to confirm this unless there is something you are trying to prove. Just a forum of opinions here....

She competed in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia on the women's 4x100m Medley swim team. They finished in fifth place.

I personally think we're getting ahead of ourselves here.....I mean, if you think about it, it's not like any of the photos of PA and CW were really public events. Someone just snapped them in the stands. To intstantly marry the two is probably being a bit presumptuous...

True...true...it's the press talking wedding more than anyone else. We're the folks who buy the magazines though... It will probably be like this whenever he is seen in public with a woman.

Well, I was just thinking he made quite a few public appearances with NC. Then we didn't see her agian til she showed up on the cover of Paris Match holding his child. (You'd really think he would have learned to stop posing for so many pictures with so many women but he just doesn't care.) She says they were together five years but it was obviously not a closed relationship. He probably has to be really really careful what he says to women. Women appear to fall in love with him pretty easily, proably not hard with a potenial princess fantisy lurking in the background, but why would he settle down? Give up falling in love over and over? That new relationship stuff is fun, romance, first kisses, unknown.....He might surprize me but I'm going to have to cast a vote to change the name of this thread to " No wife for PA, he really doens't need one." Just like any independant woman will tell you, a woman can be whole without a man, and PA can certainly be whole without a woman.

It's kinda of sad to say this, but if he hasn't found the "one" at this age, he probably won't. He either has impossibly high standards or he is not really serious about getting married and chooses to remain a bachelor. I just can't imagine that with all the women he has dated or come into contact with that he hasn't found one lady among them. I just think that when a man is intent on finding a wife, he does it. No excuses.

I'm not saying he's a bad person, but marriage is obviously not a priority for him.

I agree with you. People need to accept the fact that PA may never get married and he probably decided this a long time ago but because of his position, he just cannot come out and say it. So he leaves people guessing. Probably the reason why he is not as close to his son, because he never wanted him to begin with. Probably never planned to have kids and here comes NC who manages to con him. I mean isn't it strange that in the official MC website, even now that he acknowledged the child there is still no mention about him under his personal life like his sisters. He is probably doing it not to give NC that satisfaction but common the kid exists and not mentioning it under his credentials is not going to change that. What is he going to explain to him one day. I like PA but he needs to grow up.

Then, jabilo, he's a deadbeat dad even if he does provide financially! A boy needs a father just as much as a few thousand a month. I will say this again: pauvre petit bebe Alexandre. :( :( :(

I think the people of Monaco would also be relieved if Albert finally married. I thought that was part of the "job" description - to get married and keep the royal line going. Am I wrong?

well the royal line would still be going because rainier made those changes before his death so that andrea would take over in the case albert did not marry.

But the point is that Rainier was forced to make those changes because Albert refused to marry. And yes, starnightsky, getting married and producing heirs is part of the job description of the Prince of Monaco. If he didn't want to live up to his responsibilities, he should have abdicated in favor of Caroline. I hardly believe out of all the women he's dated, not one of them was loveable, suitable, and capable of being Princess of Monaco. He chose to be a playboy and skirt his duties.

we both know that is not going to happen. he has been preparing for this his whole life and is so capable yet he does not wish to marry at the moment and there is nothing wrong with that, as long as he knows what he is doing with the country , which he does. he couldn't very well abdicate in favour of Caro because that would mean Ernst and her would have to give their HRHs up, and that also is not going to happen and I don't think Ernst would like being consort very much and Caro has not been training for this all her life and she could not abdicate in favour of Andrea because at the moment he is not ready, perhaps Albert is getting him ready. really, who knows? anyways i personally think albert will never get married. then we have Andrea, and I think with the proper training he will do a spectacular job. and this one will get married!

Never say never...when you least expect it, things happen and happen for the right reasons. As I have said before (see previous thread), often looking for the perfect person can lead to "analysis paralysis." I believe when Albert lets his guard down, and lets go of trying to figure out which woman can live up to his mother, he will find the right person. As paca has also said, Grace had a very difficult time after the glow of the wedding was over, and often people idolize others after death.

And you are right, enchantednights, right now he needs to focus on proving himself as a sovereign and he is doing very well. One thing at a time...

That is exactly what I was trying to say. Albert is the Prince of Monaco and one of his duties is to get married and produce an heir not to rely on his sisters to do his job for him! Albert is a disappointment. He knew from an early age what his duties were to be and if he didn't think or want to live up to them, then he should have let it go to Caroline even if Prince Rainier would've have had a heart attack.

but the thing is that getting married and having a child is not his only job. just part of it, and right now it is not necessary because he could easily adopt Andrea. i don't know i guess i'm the only one who really doesn't see him not getting married as this big thing. he's fine the way he is and an excellent leader if you ask me.
