Math is a fabulous subject if you are a sadistic librarian, ie one thoroughly professional, calculating book fines and having the wretched creatures who had the temerity to check a book or sound recording out of YOUR library then having to pay shekels for doing so, Oh Joy. Other than that, unless you have a talent for the business, avoid such like the plague. Are you getting enough sleep?

As for detox, by all means do it, but slowly and carefully. When you detox you are actually releasing all the toxins, ie poisons, already in your system. As I have what is misnamed Lyme disease, I can assure you this business of toxins and detoxing is a serious and painful one. Not to mention difficult. Of course we all want to noble BeatrixFan to live long and prosper. Kindly refer to my comments about the late and sad case of Princess Margaret. May I suggest a gentle regimen of moderation??? Not more than one or two G and Ts a day with two glasses of wine for dinner and glasses of the usual size, if you please, no cheating. All with food, of course. and then one must exercise. Walking is that most splendid English exercise and sport. Dear BeatrixFan, you must take it up. Throw in the occasional picnic with the regulation two glasses of wine with food and there you have it. Moderation in all things, including moderation.

As for the British being boring. I am crushed. I am a fanatic Anglophile who profoundly and deeply every day regrets that idiotic business of the American Revolution. Just think you have the Queen and we have (well it doesn't matter, one rancid politician after another). No the British are not boring, but one can give them a hard time. As for tolerance, I have learned that all these left wingers really have some very interesting ideas about what is to be tolerated and what is not. And woe betide you if you cross one of their tripwires. Life can then get very interesting and most unfunny indeed. Cheers.

BTW here in Hell, SC, otherwise known as the WOK from Hell, ie Columbia SC it is 3:25 in the afternoon and miserable humid beyond belief. And don't forget to take your chocolate. And get your sleep.

Thank you Thomas for such concern . The exam is tomorrow at 2 PM (GMT). Please, all of you try telepathic communion in order to help me resolve the most terrible equations and arithmetic functions . You're right ; chocolate is helpful .

As a sadistic librarian , I would say that math is most definitely not a fascinating subject.

But still, it is important to pass...

Even for those tolerant left-wingers among us, maths can be a damn nuisance. Mind you, IMO it's less bloody than physics.

Yeah, Chemistry is fine for me though. When I was small, I wanted to work for NASA but math and physics discouraged my little soul. Then I saw Columbia crashing and the old images of Challenger disaster which totally depressed me. Oh well, maybe in another life .

My husband works for NASA, at least indirectly. Mind you, he's a physicist.

Honestly, I'm fascinated by these people who managed to understand physics and in the end found a way to send mankind in space (Poor us, literary ignorants ). But I wouldn't volunteer to go up there .

Kudos to your husband for understanding all of that. I just can't put my mind around it all.

He volunteered. He was on the shortlist of candidates to fly as a payload specialist on Spacelab 2 back in the 1980s. Bloody insane, if you ask me.

His boss actually did fly on that mission. Totally bloody insane...

I think it's insane as well. A guy I went to school with went up, Stan Love. It was exciting that he went as this was a life-long dream. But I will always remember him as Oberon in our Middle School's play: Midsummer's Night Dream.

Insanity, Most Noble Elspeth, OH SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED, there are all kinds of insanity. Going into space may be insane, and who am I, spaced out all the time as I am, to argue. But the insane things people do on earth are even more out than that. As for your husband, at least he is intelligent. He can do physics and after all he did, after buying you a RUBY engagement ring had the courage to go through with it and marry you. I have heard of cases where they get to the altar and one or the others Knees or courage give out and they rush or collapse out of the room. And then there is the story of the groom here in Columbia who had one last little ugh fling. But that would be violating the rules banning the reporting of naughtly little escapades.

I myself am a retired Librarian, a music librarian, at that and a sadist to boot. But a sadist with a sense of homour. Amazing what you can do with a sense of humour and get into all kinds of interesting trouble with idiots who do not have one. And yes, math in those circumstances is most useful, most useful indeed.

As for dear BeatrixFan, we must get her to limit the overswilling of the G and T etc. It is not good for her health and we must keep the recalcitrant creature alive and healthy and increasingly obnoxious for years, if not decades to come. Cheers.

Russophile--I just came in and saw where you were leaving--I seem to be forever late to the party!
