The Queen in 3D

This autumn, Channel 4 will be distributing 3D spectacles nationwide for a special week of programming which will celebrate the golden era of 3D footage.
Renegade Pictures are producing the centrepiece of the weekwhich for the first time on television will feature newly-discovered and unique 3D footage taken of Her Majesty during her Coronation year. The footage has been languishing in the vaults of the BFI and is part of a rare body of 3-D newsreel films shot in the 1950s. This spectacular footage includes The Queen attending Royal Engagements in the weeks leading up to and after the Coronation in 1953; a very Royal Epsom Derby which saw Her Majesty’s own horse compete, a trip down the Thames on the Royal Barge and the glittering Coronation Procession making its way to Westminster Abbey.

The 3-D quality of the films will show The Queen and 1950s Britain in a way never seen before, giving viewers the uncanny impression of being 'inside' the footage with Her Majesty herself.

We will be recording interviews with historians and social commentators to consider why the Corontaion Week is one of the most fondly remembered moments in the nation’s collective memory.

We are also looking for individuals who remember attending these historic events during the Coronation week:

The Coronation Procession - Maybe you camped over night in the Mall to get a front row seat? Or perhaps your only chance of glimpsing Her Majesty was through a periscope?

Epsom Derby - Did you place a bet on the Queen’s horse because of the occasion – and remember losing as a result? Or perhaps you were a bookmaker or worked as a runner, who could tell us about the odds that day?

EdinburghWere you present when Her Majesty was handed the keys to the City of Edinburgh?

Royal Barge journeying down the Thames – Did you see The Nore making its way from Tower Pier to Westminster?
