It can be worn in a different arrangement, like a floral wreath diadem and then it looks waaay different. It can look stunning on the lush dark hair of Crown Princess Mary.

I just really dont like a yellow gold tiara or anything that is not encrusted with diamonds. Modern tiaras still need to have a classic appearance....to me of course!

Usually a crown or a coronet is also in yellow gold, but then the design is more conventional, of course.

Here you see a golden coronet diadem which was auctioned in 2007 by Princess Maria Gabriella di Savoia and sold by the Mannheim Museum.

Provenance:

-1-
1830 Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Baden née Princess Napoléon formerly known as De Beauharnais

-2-
1860 Queen Carola of Saxony née Princess of Sweden

-3-
1907 Princess Marie of Belgium née Princess von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen

-4-
1912 Queen Elisabeth of Belgium née Duchess in Bavaria

-5-
1924 Queen Maria José of Italy, Princess di Savoia née Princess of Belgium

-6-
2001 Princess Maria Gabriella of Italy, Princess di Savoia

-7-
2007 Mannheim Museum

And yet it's not even the worst golden tiara in the Norwegian royal family. The one Princess Astrid owns is much worse and looks like it's bought at the toy store for a 5 year old girl to play with.

Has CP Mary worn this tiara? I haven't been able to find a picture.

To defend Princess Astrid: the two "antennas" are aigrettes designed to hold a feather. The Princess wears them without a feather and then it looks weird but on itself it are nice items of jewelry.

This is an aigrette worn without feathers.

A similar aigrette but now with a central monture when no feathers are worn.

A similar type of aigrette, with feathers.

An aigrette with feathers, as is intended.

Princess Irene with only the central prong of the diamonds-and-rubies "Peacock Parure" worn as an aigrette. A feather is missing to complete it.

No, only a photoshop. There are 8 golden poppies as a hair-ornament. Here is a close up. To give an idea of poppies re-arranged into a more conventional diadem, see here. Of course I would make a nice 3/4 round circlet without open spaces.

Fortunately, voices of sanity have spoken about the Spanish Wedding Present tiara. There's opinion and then there's just failure to understand related to genre.

Omg I didn't think it could get worse...just hideous! It looks so fake too. Please tell me these aren't family heirlooms.

It is a family heirloom indeed. The gold diadem is set with a variety of stones in different shapes and colors: green, red, white. It is a complete circlet and it is part of a set witch matching earrings and a brooch. The fluffy hairdo of Princess Astrid does no justice to the diadem. It is possible that it would look stunning on someone as Princess Mette-Marit. The set is believed to be made for Princess Ingeborg of Denmark who became Princess of Sweden by marriage. She was not only a grandmother of King Harald and Princess Astrid, she was also a grandmother of King Albert II of the Belgians, King Baudouin of the Belgians and Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte of Luxembourg and a grandmother to Madeleine Kogevinas née Countess Bernadotte.

1.
Princess Ingeborg of Sweden née Princess of Denmark (grandmother of Princess Astrid)

2.
Princess Märtha of Norway née Princess of Sweden (mother of Princess Astrid)

3.
Princess Astrid, Mrs Ferner

As said above it is a diadem from her Grandmother Princess Ingeborg. Astrid has said that this tiara along with her diamond bandeau and the famous "radio antennas" will be left to her children while her 2 bigger (and nicer) pieces the Vasa tiara and the Turqoise tiara will go back to the King.

Oh my! Oh my! MEEEERCY!! Stop already with images of this woman...pleeeeease!! Does she have no one who loves her? Surely she has been warned of how hideous her taste appears to be with head pieces?

Haha i think it's a cool piece. Astrid is well aware of how it looks as she has joked that she can recive radio transmissions from London and Moscow when she is wearing it :-D

She has a more traditional looking nice piece too called the "vasa diadem"

IMO I don't think this tiara would look good on anyone...especially Mette-Marit. But I guess if it's a family heirloom then one has to wear it. Now the "Vasa" tiara is quite stunning!

Yes, that piece is indeed beautiful as are the others she wears on your image, however she clearly is a "Bling" person, like our Dame Edna Average. She does not wear her jewels elegantly. A waste when they are indeed quite beautiful.
