Boris, I just cannot stop laughing at your descriptions of QEll and Camilla's hairdo's!!!!! The Queen's 'permanent permanent' and Camilla's 'swirling halo like an Aztec god'...... Sooo funny and yet, sooo true! They definately do not have the proper hair style for showing off the beauty of tiaras. And yet the Queen still manages to look elegant and regal in most of her older tiaras. Guess we are just so accustomed to her look. Just imho, of course.

Queen Sonja's modern set of monstrosities is just in a league of its own - the worst ever.
But the diamond rosettes of the two 'worst' Swedish tiaras are actually beautiful as such (and the oldest part of the Bernadotte collection as they date back to the 16th century), just the setting is awful.
As there is no significance really to their modern (late 50s/early 70s) current setting, the rosettes could easily be re-set in a beautiful fashion one day.
But with Sonja's set, there's just one option: Complete meltdown.

The worst tiara ever is Queen silvia's Cameo monstrosity. Why she would wear that horror on her wedding, given any choice, is a mystery to me.

You can't be serious? (Gasp, gulp!)
Empress Joséphine's cameo tiara is one of the most beautiful examples of the marvelous craftsmanship French jewelers had in the beginning of the 19th century... the closer you look at it, the more amazing is the whole design and setting.
If (for whatever reason) it's not to your taste, it still can't be denied that it's a historic piece of art when it comes to jewelry.
It doesn't belong under 'worst' for this reason alone, really.

Original - yes. Exquisite - No. It is to big and to much. IMO it is simply distasteful!

Lord no, the cameo is a thing of beauty. It is, I admit, rather startling at first, as cameo is not a stone and doesn't shine, so isn;t like the tiaras we are used to... But it has history, maturity and boldness. Silvia at her wedding in it was a glory - and while I thought her dress ill fitting and dowdy - the whole point was to not detract from the glory of the piece - it looked majestic and glorious.

I can see how it might not be to everyone's taste, but it is a beautiful piece.

Yes it has, and as someone who likes history a lot, this makes the tiara something very special. But I will never be capable of calling if beautiful.

It's not just the cameos, it's too upright, tall and ungainly, whith a very small base for a tiara as tall as it is. It appears to be very precariously balanced on her head (even if it's not) I understand it's an historic piece, but just not my cup of tea at all. However, I understand why you all may appreciate it.

The Swedish Cameo Tiara is a work of art and craftsmanship. It may not have the popular glitter of massed diamonds, but even so it's an odd inclusion in this thread.

Here's a large pic... Cameo Tiara

I quiet like the swedish tiara. I'm not a fan of how Queen Silvia wore it on her Wedding day. Too round and i didn't like how they placed her veil. I think it looks beter how she wears it now when the tiara is not entire round.

Thank you Udyusa... I think it might just be relief at finding other people who get as worked up as I do about these things hehe!

The cameo would always be something to divide opinion, as it is such an unusual piece, and seeing it close up again in Warren's piece just serves to remind me of its intricacy, craftsmanship and absolute beauty! Swoon...

Hey, a little cameo tiara fight breaking out, defending its honor? How very refreshing! The tiara deserves it.
Here are some more pics showing Queen Silvia’s beautiful ways of wearing this marvelous piece (swoon indeed! ):

Discussion of it should actually continue in the ‘most beautiful’ thread , but:
In the close up pic provided by Warren, the pearl base is attached in a very weird way (with some kind of strings??) to the tiara.
I’ve never seen it looking like that apart from this (older) photo. Strange.
