I can't decide which I like...
an up-do is usually the best way to 'show' off the tiara, but the style has to be poofy not slicked back.

then again, someone like the GD Maria Therese of Lux. has short hair, as does QEII and they wear theirs well.

Most definately HIDE THE FRAME!!! Ugh I cannot bear to see the frame especially when it's not jewelled and is just bare metal to lift the tiara! Nor do I like seeing the piping/cushion (that is to match the wearer's hair color) because it just visually ruins the look for me. Yuck. Why go to any trouble to hide the elastic band if you aren't going to hide the rest of the obvious hardware....lol.

I must add that the pictures of Queen Silvia are terrific. My favorite is the red bows. There is just something so festive about that ornamentation. I don't know much about Sweden folk customs/lore/costuming, but it sure seems like an elegant yet homey touch.

Tiaras definitely need to be worn with the hair being up. If it's formal enough for a tiara and evening clothes then I should think a formal up-do would be proper.

wow, the Queen of Sweden just never goes wrong! I love the pearls woven into the hair w/ the cameo tiara. A perfect touch.

Sometimes she does, like at the wedding of Marthe-Louise.

I think Maxima has great feeling on how to put a tiara right on the head and how to style the hair. Of course with the help with a hairdresser...

A good example from Sybille of Luxemburg at the wedding of Marthe-Louise. I think she is great!

The hair extention thing about Maxima has been in a few messageboards. I can't recall if they got the info from a magazine or what. But, it's generally accepted that she wears hair extentions on occasion.
Which makes sense, because hair today is a lot different (we take better care of it) then in the past, so, it's not as easy to anchor the tiaras.

I don't care about it. If it is stylish done and fit for a princess, just do. Maxima looks even better with some extra hair!!

And you're right. We really take care on our hair.
