I dunno, I can't say I like that look on Madeline. It looks like they just plopped it on her head.

I like Queen Sylvia's amazing updos. CP Victoria seems to be following nicely in her mother's well groomed footsteps.
I love all the extras the queen adds, from the ribbons, to the ropes of diamonds(or fake diamonds) to the applied sparkles.. just a neat touch to the back of the head, where you don't normally see much glitter.

I can't decide which I like...
an up-do is usually the best way to 'show' off the tiara, but the style has to be poofy not slicked back.
then again, someone like the GD Maria Therese of Lux. has short hair, as does QEII and they wear theirs well.
Most definately HIDE THE FRAME!!! Ugh I cannot bear to see the frame especially when it's not jewelled and is just bare metal to lift the tiara! Nor do I like seeing the piping/cushion (that is to match the wearer's hair color) because it just visually ruins the look for me. Yuck. Why go to any trouble to hide the elastic band if you aren't going to hide the rest of the obvious hardware....lol.
I must add that the pictures of Queen Silvia are terrific. My favorite is the red bows. There is just something so festive about that ornamentation. I don't know much about Sweden folk customs/lore/costuming, but it sure seems like an elegant yet homey touch.

Tiaras definitely need to be worn with the hair being up. If it's formal enough for a tiara and evening clothes then I should think a formal up-do would be proper.

wow, the Queen of Sweden just never goes wrong! I love the pearls woven into the hair w/ the cameo tiara. A perfect touch.

Other pictures of Maxima wearing a tiara
Maxima with hair extensions, like at the wedding of Marthe-Louise.
A good example from Sybille of Luxembourg at the wedding of Marthe-Louise. I think she is great!
Beatrix of the Netherlands....

I think Maxima has great feeling on how to put a tiara right on the head and how to style the hair. Of course with the help with a hairdresser...

The hair extention thing about Maxima has been in a few messageboards. I can't recall if they got the info from a magazine or what. But, it's generally accepted that she wears hair extentions on occasion.
Which makes sense, because hair today is a lot different (we take better care of it) then in the past, so, it's not as easy to anchor the tiaras.

I have to add my two sense worth in...I have found that wearing a tiara (where you wear it and how your hair is situated) really depends on the shape of the tiara and the shape of your head and face. As a State Sweetheart for Colorado DeMolay, I wore my tiara's farther up on my head, and only half my hair up, (because it looks better for me personally). The girl who followed me however, wears her tiaras father back and her hair up. The girl before me wore hers closer to the front of her head and her hair down.

well, for small discrete tiara's putting back on the head can work. But for regal tiara's, like the Spencer tiara, the grand tiara's of Queen Sonja, has to be put more at the front.

I really dislike those button tiaras the Swedes have. And the amethyst tiara doesn't work for Victoria because she has such a round face.
