Based on the ladies we know are attending the Enthronement (second tiara for people attending the PM banquet)

* Mathilde - 9 Provinces (Enthronement), Brabant Laurel (PM)
* Maxima - Wurttemberg Ornate Pearl (Enthronement), Diamond Bandeau (PM)
* Letizia - Cartier Diamond and Pearl (Enthronement), Spanish Floral (PM)
* Silvia - 9 Prong

As Japan loves diamonds and pearls, I hope Máxima will surprise us with the Württemberg Ornate Pearl Diadem, in the full version with all eleven upright pearls on top. The last time the full version was worn was in 1982.

The full version: https://www.vorsten.nl/app/uploads/2...1881887698.jpg

Sorry but I hope not. That tiara is beautiful and ornate as it is. Its way OTT with the full tiara. Maybe adding just the pearls back on top like Beatrix did the last tiara event before she abdicated, but not the full tiara please.

I suspect we may see some colored stones among the royal ladies. As with his father's enthronement, we see the Japanese tastes dont apply to guests.

I am a non-colored tiara fan too more so with diamonds and pearls. Japan has most stunning pieces. I am also curious as to what the Empress will wear too. I bet there are still a lot of tiaras inside their vault with so many princess consort that have died in the last 100 years and princesses who left after marriage.

The last time Queen Beatrix wore the diadem, she wore 5 upright pearls on top of the prongs. But there is an esthetically more eye-pleasing version with 6 upright pearls in between the prongs, resulting in a gently flowing top line.

I always try to figure out how they house this magnificent collection. Are the rubies all together?..etc.
Is there a drawer for just bracelets? I know this is silly but I would love to see this:p?

I guess if Maxima will wear this piece, it will be version 1 or 3. Ver 2 and 4 are too grand (and tall), I think Maxima would save them for important state visit in future or skip these two and leave it for her daughter.

I can't see why Queen Máxima would not wear the full version of the Württemberg tiara. As the diamonds are small it will still be pretty modest, also compared to other tiaras in the Dutch collection. Another option is the Mellerio Ruby tiara, which is more impressive in carats but slightly smaller than the Württemberg. It can also be considered a tribute to the Japanese flag.

As for Queen Letizia: I really hope she will wear the Shell tiara, which I find one of the most beautiful tiaras that exist.

For the Crown Princess of Denmark I would like to see her Ruby parure worn in full, which has been a while. And again, the colors can be considered a tribute to the Japanese flag.

Queen Silvia: I would like to see her in her sapphires.

Queen Mathilde does not have a lot of options.

The only versions that are 'esthetically pleasing' at all are 1 and 2. 3 and 4 are just OTT.

The version Max wears is impressive enough as it is. The only version I could see her doing is perhaps 2.

If she doesnt think it grand enough, she has other larger tiaras to work with

I'd not be shocked to see Letizia in the shell tiara considering the Japanese fondness for pearls/diamonds. But I hope not. Its far from my favorite tiara, and its pretty small. I'd rather the loop or fleur de lys.

Mary in her full rubies would be great. A bit smaller tiara but still stunning and perfect for the crown princess.

Mathilde we will likely see the full nine provinces. Not like she has many options. Be nice if the spanish wedding gift was still around and she wore it. This is one family that can benefit from some new tiaras being added. I always hope Queen Elisabeth's bandeau remains in the main line, and we see it one day on her name sake.

Is the Empress emerita going to attend any of this banquets or she and the Emperor emeritus are going to avoid outshining the new reigning couple?

Did the Emperor emeritus mother attend his enthronement banquet and what tiara did she wore if she did?

No. Empress Nagako was in failing health for a few years before her husband died. Her last public appearance was prior to his death, in 1988. She wasn't even in strong enough health to attend his funeral. She lived in seclusion in their home until her death, with a court of royal ladies and doctors.

As for the emperor emeritus attending, I believe the answer is no

Q. What will Akihito do after abdication?

A. Akihito will hold a new title, emperor emeritus, but he will be fully retired from official duties and will no longer sign documents, receive foreign dignitaries, attend government events or perform palace rituals. He won’t even attend his son’s succession rituals and will largely recede from public appearances.

But abdication is a new concept for Japanese, and having a living former emperor is a new concept.

Thank you for laying out the different versions of the peal and diamond tiara, I think they are all lovely. I do hope Maxima wears this tiara in Japan, just as she did when they visited Japan on their first state visit as monarchs.

Don't think Emepror emeritus Akihtis and Ermpress emerita Michiko will attend. And even if they would the Emrpress emerita would not wear a tiara as she hasn't worn one since about 10 years because of health reasons.

Queen Mathilde does not have a lot of options.

Other than a totally unexpected (and unlikely) reappearance of the Spanish wedding gift tiara, Queen Mathilde's "option", as Maria-Olivia said, is to wear the Nine Provinces in full setting with the Wolfers tiara as a necklace, which she hasn't done before. I always thought she would save that combination for a state visit to the UK, but she may choose to debut it in Japan.

If tiaras are worn at the PM's dinner, I would love to see Mathilde with the Art Deco diamond bandeau, but that is not going to happen as I believe that tiara has now been passed to Princess Astrid and won't be back to the Belgian RF's main line. The Brabant Laurel Wreath matched with one of Mathilde's big diamond brooches (the Waterfall or the Butterfly) is the most likely combination then for the Belgian queen for the second dinner.

Letizia hasn't worn the Shell tiara since she became queen consort and, in fact, the tiara hasn't been seen for a while. I recall that Queen Sophia wore it at CP Victoria's wedding , but I am not sure if anyone wore it after that. It is a relatively old piece, made in 1867 according to the Court Jeweller, and there are some rumors that it might be in need of restoration/maintenance. In any case, the tiara is still owned by Queen Sofia (or Juan Carlos ?) and, although Sofia has loaned tiaras to Queen Letizia before, I don't think she would pick the Shell tiara for the Japanese event when she has grander tiaras to choose.

I hope Letizia wears one of the two larger pearl and diamond tiaras she has worn in recent years.

Thanks for this information and sorry for the late response.

That's make me appreciate more the 93 Queen EII who wears heavy tiaras to this day and the humongous Imperial State Crown which weights 1.06 kg (2.3 lb) all this while having a back problem.

Although I think the fact that she is used to wearing tiaras since the age of 21 and probably even at 18 may have helped her through the years.

Maxima for sure will wear the diamond bandeau. As for Mathilde, I am sure she'll wear the Nine Provinces as she lacks options. Letizia should wear Queen Ena's Pearl and Diamond Tiara. Mary can wear the Danish Ruby Parure as she lacks options too.

There is a chance I could missing some, but here are the confirmed royal women that will be attending the Japanese enthronement celebrations:

Queen Mathilde
Queen Maxima
Queen Silvia
Queen Jetsun Pema

Is Queen Silvia confirmed ? I can't find any Swedish confirmation of a representative anywhere...

Q.Maxima and K.WA will pay a state visit to India, there will be a state banquet, can we expect a Tiara? I dont think it will be white tie but maybe white tie?
My guess would be the Diamond Bandeau or Q.Emmas Diamond Tiara

Queen Beatrix wore the Württemberg tiara for her first state visit to India in 1986. For the second one in 2007 she did not wear a tiara. I would not be surprised if Queen Máxima would follow the last option.

Perhaps the very discreet Rose Cut Diamond Bandeau. One would almost not know it's there.

Hmm, I will cross my finger Maxima will wear a Tiara, during the Belgian state visit it was Black Tie so there is a small chance Maxima will wear a Tiara and if not im pretty sure she will wear a nice collar or brooch :flowers:

If it's black tie there might be a tiara. Maxima usually opts for tiaras wherever she can. On the other hand, Mathilde has worn a tiara at some black tie banquets before, like in Poland. So, I wonder if the dress code for those banquets is more specific than just saying 'black tie' or 'white tie'? Maybe it's negotiated between the two parties whether tiaras are welcome or not. Though we might not hear about those agreements because they are kept secret.

So if the Queen wears a tiara, I'd say it's something on the smaller side. And coloured stones and a fancy design might go well with the bright Indian saris all around. The peacock would be perfect, if it weren't rather large. Maybe the emeralds then?

There will be Dutch state visit to Germany in June 2020. It may be a tiara event as the Dutch state visit to Germany in 2011 had a tiara event.

Next week will be the Belgian state visit to Luxembourg. Unfortunatley MT will not attend due her surgery. My guess

Mathilde: full 9Provinces i hope for Fabiolas Spanish wedding gift
Stephanie: Vine Leaves i hope for Diamond Scroll

Claire: Marie Adelaide Sapphire Tiara
Alexandra:Chaumet Pearl

Yrs it will be a fullblown State Visit with full ceremonial and protocol. The new royal couple has made Official Visits to all Bundesländer, only Berlin/Brandenburg remains. An area full with shared Orange-Nassau/Hohenzollern history. I think Máxima will certainly pack out at Schloss Bellevue or at Schloss Charlottenburg

I don't think we will even see the Spanish Tiara again being worn by a Belgian queen ,though I do hope that I'm wrong.

Queen Silvia wore tiaras to both the State Dinner (connaught) and the Return Dinner (baden fringe) during the last swedish State visit to Germany in 2016. I expect nothing different for Maxima next year :)
