This thread is about a wedding tiara, not about slants -imagined or real- about the colour of Meghan's wedding dress. Or slants -imagined or real- about her wearing a veil or not.

Further posts about the colour of the wedding dress will be deleted without notice.
Further arguments with absent or imagined critics will also be deleted without notice.

The DM is now claiming that Meghan will wear the Halo (though I don't see how they could possibly know that).

Evidently the DM is unaware that the Halo is going to be out of the country during the time Meghan is getting married....

I could see perhaps offering a Spencer heirloom for her to wear, to connect her to Diana but I don't think the earl would ever offer the tiara even as a loan.

The Spencers are an old family and tradition is important. Traditionally the tiara is worn only by either the wife or the daughter of the earl (or daughter in law). That is why Diana wore it. Even the earl's future granddaughters from Edmund (the younger son of the earl) who would be Spencers in name, would not likely wear.

Besides wearing a tiara at the wedding is an introduction into the royal family not the Spencer family. It would be one thing if Meghan had a family tiara like Diana did, or Camilla does (though obviously didn't wear at wedding). But she doesn't.

I might be wrong, but didnt Prince Harry inherited the Spencer tiara on his 30th birthday together with Prince William ? ?

The Spencer tiara is owned by Diana’s brother, not Harry and William. While she may have worn it many times, it never belonged to her.

Harry's uncle, Earl Spencer, inherited the Spencer tiara and his wife/daughters have worn it.

And Camilla too, of course

That tiara is out of the question maryshawn. It's reserved for Queens only. Only Kate will wear it once she and William become King and Queen.

I would still put money on the Cartier Halo and make it a wedding tiara for both the wives of Diana's sons. Either that or the Lotus Flower.
Can't imagine the Strathmore Rose will be used considering it's shape and the Teck Crescent hasn't been seen in decades. I would be surprised to see such a tiara turn up on a new member.

It might come down to comfort.

The tiara will be on her head for hours and hours. We have no way of knowing the most comfortable tiara.

I really don't like the Cartier Halo :ermm: though that may be a bias against the way Catherine wore it. These small tiaras (I think) need up-dos to do them justice.

Between the Strathmore Rose and the Teck Crescent, with the right up-do the Teck Crescent would be fabulous on Meghan. I have a hunch the Queen is going to make something very nice available for Meghan (unless Charles purchases a tiara for her, which would be a nice gesture, and ensure a tiara that really suits Meghan's sensibilities and taste). :flowers:

I don't think Meghan will go for anything large and flashy in the tiara department. JMO.

Why would she wear it even if the Earl was willing to lend it :ermm: She is not a Spencer nor is she becoming a Spencer.

Her wedding is her introduction to being a Windsor. She either needs a Windsor tiara or one bought for her by the Windsors. Besides, she needs a tiara she can where for other events over the years, not just the wedding.

I would drop my jaw if she wears this. Is it even possible? I've never heard that a royal bride borrows a tiara from the groom's mother side (well except these mothers who are queen regnant).

The tiara traditionally is only worn by 1. the wife of the earl Spencer 2. his daughters. Meghan is neither and will be neither. But as the blogger stated, technically Harry's Uncle can loan it to whoever he chooses as he owns it.

A bride will sometimes wear a tiara from her own family, but that's about it.

Technically he can do it but still, it is impossible......:ninja: Even Harry's uncle is willing to loan it to them I don't think they will accept.

I don't think Harry should weigh his future wife down with too much mother stuff. Already she has a ring with diamonds from Diana's cache, that's enough, and may already be 'too much'.

Watch Meghan carefully during the engagement interview: at a crucial point, she does not answer a pointed question about Diana head-on (I think it's to do with the diamonds, in fact). You sense it's a bit much for her, and she is possibly aware it's a sensitive area for him. She handles it deftly but I don't think Harry is going to score points if he keeps going on about his mother around Meghan. JMO.

We all know that mothers-in-law can be a mixed bag, and as much as (some) people (and that includes Harry) think Diana would be enamored with Meghan, we just don't know. We don't. Mothers-in-law are quixotic creatures: not every daughter-in-law is smitten with them, and Harry making of Diana a household goddess may not be the best route to be taking with his future wife. Just saying.

Thanks for the “if” which I forgot  I also think Harry doesn't want his wife bear too much Diana's “legacy” (both tangible and intangible) and just be Meghan. So the Spencer tiara? Probably Spencers say no (even though technically they can say yes), Windsors say no (why borrowing others tiara when you marry into Windsor?), and also, Harry says no. Even if he wants to pay tribute to his mother he can do it in other way, a wedding tiara is too much.

Golly I didn’t know tiaras caused so much concern. If he wanted her to wear it and she wanted to wear none of our business

Ah, you caught me! ;) ? When I quote someone I do have a tendency (which I usually keep in check) to edit the post, sort of clean-it-up. :D A wee bit of OCD peeking out there, at least to do with language/composition. Ha! Thanks for not being offended. I figured it was a typo and it just needed the 'if' to make sense and flow better.

I'm glad you're convinced but I'm not. I see him very much 'caught' in the 'glamour' (with that word's antique meaning) of the mother he adored. He's never transitioned to seeing her as as an adult, I don't think. That's evidenced by what he has said, for example that he seems to think Diana and Meghan would be 'thick as thieves'. He clearly recalls Diana through the haze of childhood.

Honestly, while I do subscribe to the pov that you can tell a lot about a man by the way he relates to his mother (and one does want to see a level of honor and reverence there), I would be leery of any man who makes their mother an issue on their wedding day rather than their bride. There does not need to be 'tribute paid' to the mother-in-law at the wedding. JMO. If it shows up there (and it's already showed up in the engagement ring) I would say the future wife has some problems ahead: that kind of 'reverence' can get old pretty fast for the daughter-in-law, methinks. Just saying.

What is clear is Meghan 'appreciates' Harry's thoughtfulness regarding the engagement ring. Isn't that an interesting way to answer? I think so. That engagement ring should be all about the beloved (in this case Meghan) not the mother. It should be all about his love for Meghan and their life together front-and-center. JMO.

I find myself most curious about the earrings she will wear for the wedding. She prefers a small stud/post earring and that's not common for BRF weddings. As to Tiara...

I have imagined the conversation where Harry goes to Charles Spencer and asks for a short or long term loan of the tiara. There is a lot of ways to imagine how that goes.

Heck, for all I know, the Earl has already called Harry and offered a loan of the bauble. It would be a nice gesture just to make the offer. If accepted, the Spencers would get a chunk of press for the gesture. If not accepted, they could still get a chunk of press for the story... ?

No, he did not. Diana never owned the Spencer tiara; it belongs to Earl Spencer.

This wedding is about Meghan first and Meghan and Harry second; leave his dead mother out of it.

Do you have the same concerns for Catherine? After all, William gave Kate his mother's entire engagement ring, not just 2 stones from some of her jewelry.
