Princess Margaret also wore the Cartier Halo, didn't she ? And that tiara is now with the Duchess of Cambridge too.

But it was later worn by Princess Anne so it was known it wasn't owned by her.

I've changed my mind on this topic and think she'll not wear a tiara at all. I think she'll maybe opt for some sort of hair ornament made with flowers and other greenery. There's a bit of a 'hipster-ish' streak in Meghan and so I think she may well go for some sort of fancier boho chic type of style. Hope I'm wrong.

I've not seen a lot of boho or boho chic on Meghan. Especially not on official engagements.

This is what I'm afraid of, too.

Flowers, greenery and tiara, made me think of this one :flowers:
(no, i don't think Meghan will wear this...but it would be cool ? )

I have never seen anything remotely boho on Meghan. Or hipster for that matter. She has stuck to pretty sleek/modern/neutral look. This isn't the boho look. That is more Cressida's style if any.

I don't see her not wearing a tiara. This is her introduction to the royal family. Even women who married private people in the family, like Autumn, have worn tiaras. Like wearing a British designer, wearing a tiara to her wedding sends the message, she is now a member of the BRF.

She may wear a hair pin or such in the evening look when she ditches the veil and tiara.

A lightning bolt hit me right smack dab in the forehead (I'm changing my name to Harry Potter shortly) and this is what flashed into my mind. Going along with the poppies on the Instrument of Consent, perhaps Harry could make a quick call to Queen "Daisy" Margrethe in Denmark and ask to borrow her spectacular Golden Poppies tiara.

Well, Queen Victoria famously didn’t wear a tiara on her wedding day.

I think some are reading too much into the minimalist style. Meghan does minimalist well in everyday life. Simple lines, and not a lot of print. However, she wows when it’s time to wow. And if there is ever a time to wow, it’d be her wedding. I just have a faint suspicion in the back of my mind that people who thinks she’ll go with barely there is going to be wrong on this. And while the SR is a pretty tiara, I think it just looks silly with all the flowers once you are past a certain age.

Agree that Meghan knows how to stun when the occasion calls for it like this one does. I don't think her wedding style will be minimalist but I do think it'll be contemporary and sleek. Months ago I thought she'd pass on a tiara but too many negative connotations if she does. Queen Mary's Lozenge Bandeau seems like the best fit. It looks timeless and will pair well with Meghan's dress. 2nd pick would be Teck Crescent and 3rd the tiara auctioned off in December.

I'm not sure where these images of Meghan as boho or hipster are coming from. Just because she ordered a lemon elderflower cake doesn't make her fashion boho chic. Strathmore Rose feels like a better fit for Eugenie but honestly it looks like something a 16 year old should wear.

Boho chic doesn't seem to be Meghan's style at all. She's minimalist and clean - with a nice architectural style. Boho chic is the opposite of how she dresses.

No. There are different ways a tiara is set. Some are set in a way that it’s only a tiara. The support structure with gems on it (The Queen's Girls tiara for example). Or it can be made in a way to break down to different pieces of jewelry. Some can be broken down to brooches, but can be put together as a tiara (Princess Margaret's Poltimore as example). Some can be a necklace when taken off the base, but can be put back on the base to make a tiara (I can't think of one off the top of my head, but I know they exist ). In the bracelet bandeau’s situation, It’s three bracelets put onto a casing.

Very well explained jacqui24! :flowers: The example that pops into my mind of a necklace/tiara is Sophie's aquamarine tiara since we were just talking about it upthread. Madeleine of Sweden's modern fringe is another example.

AHA! I knew there was one in the BRF family! I just couldn't remember which one. I initially thought about the Teck Crescent, but then realized it wasn't yet. Now I remember I confused it with the Teck Circlet, which can be worn as both.

Aaarggh ....... my eyes, my eyes.

Does anyone know if the sapphire in the Sapphire Bandeau is removable? If so, how would people feel about the sapphire being replaced with a pearl or some kind of pendant or brooch that size for the center for the wedding since they always use white tiaras at wedding? I think the lines would work very well with Meghan's style, and enough of a tiara, but not too big. Lozenge is going to disappear with a veil, and I frankly just hate the pattern.

Yes, the sapphire is removable and wearable as a brooch. Princess Margaret wore the brooch separately more than she wore the tiara.

Two things, I realllllly don't like the curvy shape of the sapphire bandeau for some reason; and wouldn't it have to be a large stone to fill that space properly? That would be a really large pearl, wouldn't it? And any stone large enough to fill the space would have to be colored, unless you formed some kind of latticework background set with diamonds like the Prussian meander kokoshnik...

I was actually thinking the latter would work better. A pearl given its three dimensional shape might look odd. Maybe a mother of pearl setting? But the best option would have a sparkling brooch or pendant that size made and replace the sapphire for the wedding. My greatest frustration with some of these tiara is that they haven't been photographed in decades, and thus all the pictures are of terrible quality.

I had not thought about it before, but now that other posters raised the issue, I am beginning to think that Meghan should not wear a tiara.

No one symbolizes the current British dynasty better than Queen Victoria. In fact, many of the current traditions of the Royal Family were introduced in the Victorian age. If Queen Victoria could use a flower arrangement as a bride instead of a tiara, why couldn’t Meghan ? It would be original and she would look great.

I really hope she doesn't do this. One, it doesn't fit her style. Meghan is not very Bohemian lately in her style. I can't see her wearing a flower wreath on her head. She's too cosmopolitan for that. It worked on Fergie - I just don't see it for Meghan. Besides, if she goes for a tiara, she can be more conservative on the gown.

Two, I can hear the screams now from people declaring that they didn't let her have a tiara to wear and how that means they really don't accept her, etc...

I really hope she wears a tiara.

Because I want to see a tiara.

But seriously though, I think it'd stir up a lot of unnecessary controversy if she didn't wear a tiara. There has already been plenty of people doubting the Queen's approval at this union from the beginning. I'm not one of them, but I just don't think the BRF will want that type of narrative surrounding a high profile wedding. You add that to the fact that people always like to bring up Duchess of Windsor as Meghan is a divorced American. In my opinion, it's just bad publicity the royal family doesn't need.

I agree... even if Meghan was all like "I don't wanna wear a --" I'm pretty sure a phalanx of royal advisors would descend and explain exactly what you just did...:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

And really, if you are marrying into the royal family and is expected to carry out royal engagements, it's a matter of time before a tiara is necessary. Why wouldn't you want to wear one for the wedding?

I really hope she wears a tiara.

It worked for Fergie because it was the 1980's, and that wasn't out of place. Should be noted Fergie also had a tiara on the entire time, she didn't forego the tiara tradition.

Floral tiaras are coming slightly back, but more for the 'boho bride', the hippy feeling. A floral tiara at such a grand formal wedding would look just out of place. And is not Meghan's style at all.

And agree. If she doesn't wear a tiara, all those people who say Meghan is not accepted into the royal family will scream 'see there is proof'.

Is the Teck Circlet Tiara available for Meghan to wear?

Unfortunately, I believe that was gifted to Margaret rather than on loan. I think that would've been a beautiful choice for Meghan.

Do we know that for certain though? From what I recall, many thought the same thing about the Lotus tiara and it turned out not to be true and Kate wore it.

While we are not quite sure if that is the case, it would make sense if they have kept it. While the Countess of Snowdon may not have many tiara events in her future, the Teck Circle can be converted into a necklace so that she can use at formal dinners.

True. In reality it was a necklace, and was converted to use for a tiara at times. It was worn as a necklace only by Margaret. As far as tiaras go for a junior branch like the Linleys, the circle is a good choice to keep.

I rebuke any suggestion of Meghan NOT wearing a tiara in the name of the father, son and holy ghost.
