I've had some difficulties in choosing, because I've not seen a tiara I really like...I'm not saying that these are bad tiaras, but...I don't really like anyone of them.

My gavourite Tiara owned by the Norwegian RF is the Queen Josephine Diamond Tiara closely followed by the Pearl Tiara (large and small.. I like both versions). I'm glad they made a copy of this tiara after it was stolen.
I also quite like the Turqoise Tiara and the small version of the Malteser Tiara.
Least favourite Tiaras: definitely the Star Wars Topaz Tiara and the large version of the Malteser Tiara with the Crosses.

I chose the first one (Queen Josephine Diamond Tiara) because I think it's the prettiest. I also think it will look good on both MM and Sonja, something that cannot be said with many of the other tiaras!

I'd also like to vote for the worst- the modern topaz star trek thing.

I think I liked the Queen Josephine best too. I think the problem with some of the Norwegian tiaras is that they are either clumsy/top-heavy or not very impressive/too small.

Some of the tiaras worn by Martha-Louise or Mette-Merit are fairly small. I think they're attractive for the ladies but not necessarily the prettiest.

The modern topaz tiara is pretty awful, as is Princess Astrid's winged tiara.

The Diamond Daisy Tiara is almost exactly a century old; it was made around 1910.
King Harald and Queen Sonja gave it as a wedding gift to Mette-Marit.

I like the Daisy Tiara on MM. It fits her delicate features, but I don't think it's very grand.

I agree, the Daisy Tiara compliments Mette-Marit's features, however I would really love to see her with more 'queenly' pieces more often.

I doubt Mette-Marit will choose to wear a lot of larger pieces even when she is Queen; her preference seem to be small and simple jewels.

I really do hate the way Queen Sonja wears the Malteser Tiara. It is not exactly a very beautiful tiara in any case (in my opinion) but wearing all 3 crosses so close to each other makes it even uglier. I actually like how the tiara looked on Queen Maud in a couple of pictures though.

It is a hard choise, there are so many beautiful ones. But I voted for number one.

I also think that CP Mette-Marit will wear more "Queenly" tiaras after she has become a Queen, even though she already has worn the amethyst tiara several times. That one is quite Queenly in my opinion.

I agree. The version Queen Sonja uses to wear (all 3 crosses in a row) is definitely the worst. .. but personally I hate the crosses in general.
The tiara looks lovely without the crosses... only without the crosses.

Historically motivated

Although I love the history behind these pieces, I also really think they are very becoming (and would be) on any of Norway's royal women. My choices are:

Large - Queen Josephine's Diamond Tiara (although I believe it actually belonged to Queen Desiree first)

Small - The small version of Queen Maud's Pearl Tiara. I wish Queen Sonja would allow MM to wear this tiara occasionally, perhaps for incoming state visits. The base of the smaller version is similar in scale to the Daisy Tiara, and the pearl uprights give it a more majestic look without overpowering the delicate features of MM. I think she would look really elegant wearing it.

Suggestion for a new tiara

After reviewing the choices, I noticed the diamond necklace worn by Martha Louise in the photos of her wearing the Maltheser bandeau and her 18th birthday tiara from King Olav. It must have the most delicate chain because you almost can't see it. I wonder if they have ever considered having a tiara frame made on which the central diamond element could be attached (maybe even a tiara-comb). I don't know that it would look all that attractive on Martha-Louise with her short hair, but with the right hairstyle, I think it could look good on MM.

Does anyone agree or disagree?
