Default Unite for a better World - Monaco - Sep. 1st - 2nd, 2007

Press release: http://www.amade-mondiale.org/files/eventmandela_en.pdf

PRESS RELEASE
MR NELSON MANDELA AND HIS SERENE HIGHNESS PRINCE ALBERT II
OF MONACO “UNITE FOR A BETTER WORLD”

Mr Mandela was pleased when H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco agreed to host a major fundraising initiative in Monaco for the benefit of the charities closest to their hearts.
On 1 and 2 September 2007, two historical fundraising events will take place in the Principality of Monaco. A Private Lunch at The Prince’s Palace for 10 select donors, followed by a Gala Dinner attended by 350 guests each contributing €3,500. All funds raised will benefit Amade Mondiale, Nelson Mandela Foundation, Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, and The Mandela Rhodes Foundation.
Acclaimed Academy Award-nominated, Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globe-winning actress - Ms Alfre Woodard, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies at the prestigious Gala Dinner, with entertainment provided by Grammy Award-winning and Golden Globe-nominated singer - Mr Wyclef Jean, accompanied by accomplished South African performer - Dozi, and talented emerging opera singer – Siphiwo Ntshebe.
The dinner will be followed by an auction handled by auctioneers Sothebys. Items on auction at the event will include personal memorabilia donated to this end by the Royal family and Mr Mandela. Among others….the football boots used by Wayne Rooney during the 2006 World Cup, one of the original vests worn by Carl Lewis when winning an Olympic gold medal, an exquisite hand-made quilt containing offcuts of Mr Mandela’s famous signature silk-shirts, Drumheads signed by the world renowned singer and musician Santana, a statue of Mr Mandela and last but not least a piece of lime stone originating from Robben Island where Mr Mandela spent 23 years of the 27 years of imprisonment. The lime stone is beautifully decorated with diamonds from South African soil, set and framed to be a once-off collector’s item. Prince Albert II will donate some personal belongings for the auction such as paintings, watches, a set of jewels etc. Guests attending the event will include high profile dignitaries like Bono, Naomi Campbell, Morgan Freeman and others.

HI Stacey!! Hope all is well. Thanks for the post. It reminds me of what Prince Charles does with the Princes Trust where they raise one huge amount of money and then divide it between the charities. It's a good way to add to everyone's mission. I hope it is a success. Thanks for posting it!

Thanks for posting the invite Staceykaye! It's great that they're hosting this, hopefully it will raise a lot of money for these worthy causes.

I thought it was interesting to note the different appearances on the invite, Prince Albert looks so, well, military, compared to Nelson Mandela.

It looks like Nelson Mandela and Prince Albert are certainly to attend this event, but there is no mention of Princess Caroline and that is surprising. In light of her presidency of AMADE Mondiale and her recent visit to South Africa with Pierre to meet the Mandelas, why not include her in this event as well?
Maybe she will send Pierre or Andrea to represent her as she did last year at the anniversary party for AMADE. Even so, it is strange that she doesn't attend such an important event for her flagship charity. I was surprised last year at her not being at the AMADE event, and surprised again. Is there an official reason for this absence?

Yes it says in the presence of Caroline, Albert and Nelson Mandela. And if you mean the annual Amade meeting in Monaco, she was here. It was around Rose Ball as usual.

At the 40 years of AMADE gala last October (here, there is no Caroline) only Prince Albert.

But I now see here, April 2006 Caroline and Andrea attended this event. Caroline was simply gorgeous there.

wasn't she in the states around that time? I don't know why she wasn't there, but albert is the president, so maybe she didn't want to steal the show...?

Hi, I will be in Monaco on the 1st Sept. Can anyone advise me where/when I might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Royal family?

Nelson Mandela is my last living hero since the passing of John Paul II. I wish I could be in Monaco to see this, I'd love it.

In front of the Hotel de Paris. Just hang around Casino place. Albert is usually late so be prepared for a long wait. I think one of the cameras nearby is hooked to the net (or at least it used to be), so you might be able to catch a live glimpse of the crowd

I can't wait to hear about this event, how much they raise, and who commits; also, the social side - who went to the party, etc. I wonder if Andrea and Tatiana will be there, with his growing involvement in charity work (including AMADE).
