Smile Glistening Seas

:o hey, everyone thbrc i must say these pics are great. i must say without a doubt after the PA picture threads and the current event threads and the Tiara thread, this palais thread is without a doubt one of my all time favorites. whenever i have a free second to spare to get a chance to reread and enjoy pictures this is without a doubt one of the one's invariably i always return to. The pictures are just so beautiful. it's hard to pick just one room that i really like outside of the garden and all the other rooms of the palais i love the blue room the best those colors are breathtaking and there is so much history in these rooms it's a treat to say the least. :) i wonder do they shop for linens from the same house that does the linens for the other royalty and how about the palais placesettings for tables. although i know they sell china however i wonder where they get their china. it's something i'm simply sure everyone who loves to decorate wants to know.

Has the palace in Monaco been renovated in the recent years ?
It looks amazing! My heartiest congratulations to the person responsible for its upkeep.

I think the only thing that has had remodeling has been the private offices and family quarters. The public rooms have had upkeep work done, of course, but nothing majorly changed-just cleaned and/or repaired.

Wasn't there a book about the palais that came out with the 1997 anniversary?

Ann

The palace really is rather Moorish in style. Does anyone know when it was originally constructed? And is there any especially particular reason for the style. I mean, besides the fact that the Moors had a general impact on this area.

does anyone have a floorplan or an idea of the arrangement of rooms and halls of the palace? i have seen the documentary on the palace, but they basically showed the grand apartments individually but did not interrelate them according to sequence.

i hope someone who has gone to the public tours would be able to help. thanks in advance.

The Prince's Palace was originally built in the 13th century and was subsequently reshaped during the Renaissance. Protecting long-lived traditions, with its Italian-style gallery and 16th-century frescoes, the Prince's Palace unveils some of its treasures to the public : the Courtyard of Honour with its double staircase in Carrara marble built in the 17th century, the Hercules Gallery and its 16th-century fine frescoes leading to the "Salon Louis XV", harmoniously decorated in gold and blue and to the "Salon Mazarin" with polychrome wood panelling, the York Chamber and finally the Throne Room with its magnificent Renaissance fireplace. Length of the visit : 35 to 40 minutes. Tel : + 377 93 25 18 31

Where in the gardens did Albert dump the two tons of sand to make his volleyball court?

Ann

Edit: This is not necessarily about Roc Angel. There was a report this week in a New York paper that Albert had it done recently at the Palais de Prince in Monte Carlo. So either they confused it with an old report about Roc Angel or Albert now has two beach volleyball courts--one for each location.

The Volleball court was built in the garden of the Grimaldi country estate in Roc Agel as far as I know.
