Charlene looked nice and her hairstyle was elegant. As for Caroline, it's time for her to step back and let Charlene take control. This was Charlene's first ball and she is doing well so far despite the horrific accusations. Second, the Red Cross Ball isn't the way it used to be, with the great and the good scrambling to attend and then have fun. Monaco isn't the place to be anymore. I think Charlene made for a good hostess and while Caroline will be the doyenne of the Princely Family, she is not longer First Lady and
the Princess of Monaco now.

I am hanging on to what I know is a slim hope - that Charlene once she has settled into her role ( & perhaps begun to raise a family) will be able to bring back something of the earlier days such as those wonderful costume balls.

I'm sure she will since it will be one of her major duties as Princess. Then there's the other engagements, charities, and other things that will occupy her time. I think it hasn't been so widely covered because of all the rest of the chaos going on right now. The Eighties were the golden years for attractive royalty, mainly since everyone was rich and secure enough to end up being able to pay attention and live vicariously through them. They could afford the magazines, memorabilia, and then watch televisions that ended up covering them. It's really the end of a golden time, unless the economy picks up; if the economy does pick up, then the public will have time and interest in royalty again.
Right now, the super rich are not interesting in jet setting, certainly not in an overtly public manner like in the Eighties.
