As you said, pastels are perfect, and they accentuate whatever she may be wearing.

I think Charlene should stick with a pastel color palette as well, but when she does she is accused of being "boring".

Anyway that necklace would have been SMASHING with an ice blue or pale green gown!

True, but most princesses(there are a few exceptions) look like actresses now, IMO.

And Monaco is the most "showbiz" kingdom/principality there is anyway.

Yes, Monaco should be used to having a princess who looks like a movie star, although I do recall Princess Michael disparaging Caroline for posing like a movie star for a photoshoot back in the 80s.

Princess Michael is extremely proud of her own blue chip bloodlines. She even disparaged Princess Grace at one time if memory serves.

I have no idea how she ended up on the guest list for PA's wedding under those circumstances.

I suspect because Prince Michael was once a champion bobsledder.

That's what I meant by the potato sack. She doesn't need these impressive evening gowns to look stunning. Maybe I should have explained it better

Oh yes she does need impressive evening gowns; not to look stunning, but because her role calls for them.

I agree with You KittyAtlanta, all the newspapers were waiting what she will wear for this Gala, now, this week, they say (french newspapers), Charlene was wonderfull, the romance goes on, she was happy and love is in Monaco, they forget that 2 weeks ago, their title were ( danger in the couple, Charlene is unahappy and so,), now they say otherthing that Prince Albert and Charlene love each other. Charlene had to wear a stunning dress and it is her role to be like that in a Gala. She comes after an icone the princess Grace and everybody and the media are saying, the Rock'Monaco' must glance again.

He lost a lot of weight and it suits him well!

French newspapers?
Point de Vue, Gala, Paris Match?
Nothing new, they love Charlene.

They don´t love her. They use her to sell. Sometimes they have an agreement with the royal houses, so like her or not, they will praise her. They sell fairy tales to people who want to buy these stories. But those are not newspapers of course.

Her Serene Highness at the Red Cross Ball Looking Elegant in the Dark Red Dress

Princess Charlene looked elegant at the Red Cross Ball, her dark red dress fitted her like pea in a pad however she appeared sad eyes and stiff. She has a tendersy to look stiff with a fake smile. now that she is first lady of Monaco I hope that she does not put herself in boredom mode. One does no have to appear cheerfull all the time. Loosen Up!.

Colombe Pringle (PdV's editor) is at her best for this. She spoke on a live broadcast about her sources concerning Charlene's supposed attempted flight and she writes in this week's edition about the "spiteful fairies" around Monaco (I guess she means the ones speaking about the rumours)

She needs that soft frame around her face it would look lovely on her.

What to say about Caroline's dress.....it was like a child had found several different pieces of material, each on their own dreadful, and stitched them together to form a dress. It was truly and utterly hideous. What has happened to her amazing sense of style. There was a time she could make one draw a breath in amazement when she appeared at evening functions. Sadly no more it seems. I also did not like the gown she chose for the evening function for Albert and Charlene's wedding. She could have taken a leaf from her own daughter's book that night when Charlotte appeared in that stunning soft blue floaty gown with matching cape. How hard could it be with the best of designers at your finger tips to pick a stunning evening dress.
Yes, there was a time when I thought Caroline looked absolutely bewitching in her choice of fashion at formal events. Her style, use of color and jewels certainly made heads turn in admiration and it is somewhat bewildering now to see her current choices. I did not care for her gown at all. I can only conjecture, and this is just my opinion, that as she gets older Caroline is veering away from a more formal look and may be experimenting with different styles and designs. Perhaps she feels that now she is no longer first lady of Monaco and attention is not so highly focused on her, she can afford to be more relaxed and have a different outlook in her sartorial decisions.

Always struck me that Princess Charlene was sensible and did not obsess about gathering up impressions to be stunning. She did look lovely at the Ball and the evening gown suited her fine.colour, cut and all.
