You only need information on the coronation? If yes I will send you word for word from the books I have. Once Upon a Time, The Grimaldis of Monaco and have two more but nothing in the index about it. Will do some research for you on it Sunday and Monday and send if all goes well you will have it by Monday night. Getting my elbow smashed at work I cant do much. It will be my pleasure haven't read up on that yet. I do know there are pictures on Rainier III available. When I find them on the net will post them.

Wow thanks! I did not mean to sound impatient at all. I just thought that no one was interested. But thank you all.

Page 216 of The Grimaldis Of Monaco.

Quote:
Louis II was buried in Monaco on May 17, 1949, with great pageantry. A six-month period of public mourning followed; the Grimaldi standard was flown at half mast above the Palace, then raised again on November 18. The coronation of Rainier III was set for April 11, 1950, the day after Easter Monday.

The previous evening, brilliantly glittering garlands of light stretched all the way from the Rock, along the harbor, the Casino and the shoreline of Monte Carlo. A religious service was held the next morning at the Cathedral, with Rainier dressed for the first time in full regalia of reigning Prince: the striking royal blue uniform with the red and white sash of the Order of St. Charles. After a long, celebratory lunch with Antoinette at his side (Gisele conspicuously missing), he reviewed the guard in the Place d' Armes and presented them with the standard of Louis II with its black crepe bow (to be placed in the Palace Museum). He then watched as his own standard was raised on the flagpole above the Palace to the sound of trumpets. The new reign had officially begun.
Once Upon A Time page 44
Quote:

Louis died on May 9, 1949, three weeks before Rainier turned twenty-six. At his official coronation, April 11, 1949, Rainier Louis Henri Maxence Bertrand de Grimaldi was crowned Son Altese Serenissime (His Serene Highness) in a royal and official day of ceremony that culminated with the new Prince watching as his own standard was raised on the Palace's flagpole amid the jubilant flourish of trumpets.
Sorry nothing else in the books I have. Will look some more.

that wasnt a picture from a funeral but from the coranation of Prince Rainier and she was married to Louis II Rainiers grandfather. Someone moved the thread on Coranations which threw you off as to what it was. Me too I was wondering how it got here.

Hear in Portugal many people gets their marriage annuled, rich and not so rich. What you need is a lot of time and be patience. Some Priests doesn't agree with this in any situation but others do, so in some (and few) cases a marriage really can be annuled.
I think that the Holy Pope and all the Catholic Bishops has the perfect notion that in a divorce some times there aren's two guilties... Sometimes there is a guilty and a victim, and in this case I'm sure that the Church will annuled the marriage in order to not refuse the Sacraments to the "victim".

About this Royal Family, I think that Princess Grace was a very pious woman and Carolina seems to be too. I red in a magazine that even now that's she's marryied with Prince Ernest she goes to the Mass in order to pray by Casiraghi soul.

Lightbulb Could the Grimaldis call themselves "royal

highness" if they wanted to. Who decides if your a Royal or Serene? It would seem after being on the throne 700 years and being one of the last Absolute Monachies left on earth the Grimaldi's are as royal as any of the powerless constitutional Monachies who seem to think they are better because of one word.

I didn't know that the reigning Monarch can "upgrade" their status? Can you or anyone else confirm with an example? Alisa, I'm not disputing you at all; I just never knew that. I thought that another Monarch had to do so.

The Grimaldis are Princes and therefore Serene Highnesses thanks to a treaty signed with Spain during the 16-17th centuries, actually it was a mistake them being called Princes in that treaty since they weren't really royal or noble.

I don't think Albert or the Reigning Prince Of Monaco has ever had the power to change their status from HSH to HRH. The only way for them to become HRH is by the female Grimaldis marrying a HRH like Caroline did.

Isn't that how Luxembourg's Royals became HRH? Didn't one of the Female Rulers marry a HRH? I can't recall which one.

Lightbulb Louis XV declarded them lord and gave them the title

Prince which as a monach he had the right to create a person a Prince if he chooses-example: Price Philip of Greece renownsing his greek title to become Philip Mountbatten and then George VI created him a Royal Highness of Great Britian.

Also a lot of present day kings ancestors started out as commoners.

But the actually style "Serene" was it given to them by the king or did they just take it?? And if he was going to make them Princes and rulers it seems "royal" would have beem more appropriate since all the other royal highnesses seem to think they are better even though they are pretty powerless and Albert II is not. Are they Spanish or French?

Exactly. They seem to look down on the HSH and/or HH. Funny! I stated before on another thread, Monaco and Liechtenstein's rulers are the riches and are true rulers, yet they are only HSH's. Many of the HRH are actually quite poor for Royalty.

They are called Monegasque as citizens of Monaco. Languages are French (official), English, Italian, Monegasque. They were recognized by King Louis 15th of France in 1641 by a Treaty.
