General Questions about the Princely Family of Monaco Part 1

People often talk about the time when Rainier and Grace seemed separated in the late 60s/early 70s. I think it was a natural evolution of their relationship.
They had friends and hobbies and lives apart from each other. Psychologists say that is actually a healthy sign of a relationship, something that keeps the 'core' of the marriage fresh.

I do not at ALL believe Grace physically stepped-out of her marriage. She may have been depressed her children were growing up and on with their lives, but she was getting more active in entertainment for charity causes.

Rumors are just that. The only two people that would know are gone. I think it appropriate to let the rumors go that way as well.

Princess Stephanie's Restaurant/business?

There was a thread posted earlier with comments attributed to Princess Stephanie. In it they mention "her cafe" "restaurant." Does she own businesses in Monaco?

Stephanie used to own the Replay store and cafe in Monaco. I think she still owns a couple of Replay stores elsewhere in Europe. It was also reported that she recently bought the Le Lamparo restaurant near Monaco.

Perfectly right. The Reply stores and restaurants in Barcelona and Amsterdam are still belonging to Stephanie ( at least to some percentages).

Nope, its the other way around...Before her marriage,Princess Grace had many male admirers and been linked to co-stars like Clark Gable, Cary Grant, and Oleg Cassini..But when she got engaged and married, these affairs were put to history and Grace became a devoted princess, mother and wife..There were rumours of extra-marital affairs, but these were all nasty gossips,hangovers from the pre-Monaco, hollywood era of Grace Kelly..

I happen to read somewhere that once that wicked Junot insinuated that he wouldn't have been surprise if Grace had had an affair with Hungarian director Robert "something", since they were often together, even when Philippe and Caro went dining out with Grace.

You're right, Tosca. Robert Dolhem, I think. Don't exactly remember the last name. He worked with Grace on a project and he was supposed to work with her again in 1982. Yes, I read Junot said that. I think Junot was quoted in the biography, Grace by Robert Lacey. Like they were double dating or something. At that time, Princess Grace was staying in Paris most of the time with Caroline and Stephanie. I think this director said something like Prince Rainier was very tolerant, as there were a number of times when the three of them (Rainier, Grace and him) would dine together. Again, these tidbits are just from a book. I don't personally believe them.

hi guys! this is my first post, im more of a English and Russian no it all when it comes to royalty, i dont know a great deal about the Grimaldi family apart from who they are,

i presume they are wealth does anyone know how much? they way they live? how many 'large and important' peices of jewelry they have?

why did HSH Princess Stephanie attend the wma awards? did she present the awards? did anyone she meet like halle berry say anything thing about her?

i loved that picture of Steph and halle together lol wonder what halle was thinking because she had someone much more rich and pretty and important next to her lol

Hi Dane,

The Grimaldis are wealthy by any standards. When Prince Rainier II died, his estate was said to be worth 2 billion pounds, mostly in real estate and his family's share in the SBM, which in turn owns a lot of recreational facilities (hotels, the casino, etc.) in Monaco. The palace is so splendid, have you seen it on this forum? The family also owns a lot of valuable art stuff (paintings). As for the crown jewels, there are some heirlooms from the earlier generations and those of Princess Grace. There is a thread on the family jewels here at the TRF. Most of the family jewelry belong now to Princess Caroline as part of her inheritance. The family also owns properties in France, Switzerland, in the USA. They live a glamourous lifestyle to say the least, but they are all hardworking.

I may be mistaken but I think the World Music Awards was started in Monaco. So every WMA has at least one member of the family attending it. And Stephanie was a singer and still a huge fan of music, so it's not surprising to see her there.

Grimaldi Trio - Future Expectations

Coming back I got to read and see several reports that asked if Albert, Caroline and Stephanie can continue the glamourous image of Monaco ... or if it died with their parents.

I believe the three siblings ... and it is on purpose that I count Stephanie and Caroline as well for thos responsibilities because their function is more than important for the Principality.....I believe they'll do a wonderful job.

There's a lot to do ... but those three have been well educated and prepared for their role and function. I also believe the two sisters are as important as Albert himself in this challange. He couldn't do without them...

It is hard to explain, but the Monegasques now see their three little ones carrying all the responibility ...now that they have lost both mom and dad ... I was so touched ( as always) by all those loving gestures and signs people offered them. It's really hard to describe. You may have to see it closely to understand... what these three mean to the monegasque people. Whereever they appear there's applause, cheering, children shouting their names, young men shouting ' I love you Stephanie' , 'I love you Caroline' ... elderly women taking the princesses into their arms to give them some kind of motherly warmth ... etc. ... it's really special.

At the end of the Place du Palais cerimony, Albert was called at the balcony again but the crowd cheering, after a minute he turned around and called his sisters to join him and you could hear the crowd exploded when they saw the three together, smiling and waving. I also liked that after that he called the Casiraghis, i think to show the "new" face of the Grimaldis! Touching!

I didn't know Albert had done that...very touching indeed. They seem like such a close, and wonderful family. I thought it was wonderful to see everyone together.

As Stephanie said, Albert's ascension to the top position marks a new beginning for all of them. I'm sure Grace and Rainier, wherever they are, are very proud and happy of their 3 children, taking up their responsibilities, keeping Monaco's best interests at heart, and also, making up, putting aside differences, and being a family once again.

The Monegasques' respect and love for all three are very touching!

To my knowledge the American Royals the Hawaiian's are not related to others as the Orientals I am not sure which countries they are. The Orientals Royals haven't married outside their race that I am aware of but I haven't researched it. If you know of one of them connected to one of the following then they are related. The Hamiltons are my cousins why I said Albert looks like our side. Being of Irish decent of the Kings of Ireland like O'Kelly / Kelly High Kings of Ireland seems Grace and Rainier might have already been related before they married. If you believe in Scripture Adam and Eve the Nephilim which is said to be the intermarriage of humans and angels we are all related. There is a group of people in Africa descended from Aaron that they proved through DNA testing with samples from the High Priests in Israel.

As a point of trivia my sister will marry in St. Mary's church in Hamilton on 3/6/06 and one of Queen Victoria's grandaughters (give me time to clarify what one it was) who was a German Princess and married to the Duke of Hamilton, was the chief patron of this church during it's construction and personally paid for it's huge stained glass window and gorgeous Italian marble alter which stands to this day.

This might be one of one you are talking about. The 11th Duke, to Princess Marie of Baden, daughter of a cousin of Napoleon III. It was he that had the grandiose Hamilton Mausoleum built and reinterred the Hamilton ancestors there. They are the parents of Lady Mary Victoria Douglas Hamilton who married Albert I.

None of Queen Victoria's granddaughters married into the Baden or Hamilton families. The first "British" Royal connection with the Badens was Princess Marie Louise of Hanover who married in 1900 Prince Max, later Head of the Grand Ducal House. Their son, Prince Berthold, married Princess Theodora of Greece, a descendant of Queen Victoria and a sister of Prince Philip. The current Margrave of Baden and Head of the House is Maximilian, son of Berthold and Theodora, and thus a nephew of Prince Philip.

Hello everyone!

Just for curiosity: I would like to know who is the man that is always with the Grimaldis. He was in Rainieir's funeral, in the mass for the pope. He is old and have white hair. Is he a kind of 'secretary' of the ruler prince of Monaco???
