Princess Laurentien as Patron for Literacy and Learning

On 1 February a new high level expert group on Literacy will be launched on the initiative of Euro Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou. Princess Laurentien will be the chairwoman of the group.

Princess Laurentien inaugureated the new exhibition about Kikker (Frog) in 'the
children's book museum' in Den Haag, 20 March 2011. The Exhibition is about
Kikker, a character inspired by the children's book from Max Velthuijs for
children from 3 to 6 years.

Princess Laurentien attended the 31st edition of the Dutch film festival in Utrecht, September 27, 2011.
She awarded the reading and writing film award LSFA for the best movie. The purpose of the LSFA is to
use the film to reveal the invisible problem of illiteracy to a general public.

reading at the Windroos in Amersfoort today, January 18, 2012. Breakfast reading marks the start of

Yesterday, September 6, Princess Laurentien has taken part in the EU High Level Group meeting on recommendations to increase the level of literacy in Europe, "Literacy for All" in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Princess Laurentien attended the presentation of the National Literacy Award 2012 in Duinrell, Wassenaar today, September 8, 2012.
The literacy award is for innovative projects which contribute to help against illiteracy. September 8 was proclaimed International Literacy Day by the UNESCO in 1965.

Princess Laurentien attended the final of the ''Talent for language? Write your story!"-contest in Scheveningen today, October 30, 2012.

More than 1600 pupils between 12 and 18 years had written a story with the theme ''Nothing is what it seems'' from the musical Wicked.

Princess Laurentien attended the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of Edukans in Amersfoort today, November 7, 2012.

During the event Laurentien spoke about her experiences as UNESCO Special representative for the "All Children Reading" event of the Global Partnership for Education.

Princess Laurentien has given a speech at the "Bibliotheektweedaagse 2012" in Middelburg, the annual conference of public libraries in the Netherlands. The theme of the B2D2012 is "Developing together - the library is ready".
