Does the entrance to elementary school usually happen on a Sunday in Japan?

I do not have the impression that this is a general rule. But, of course, if the ceremony takes place on a Sunday, there is a much higher chance that both parents will be able to accompany their child to school on this very special day.

Japan's 'little prince' to be an 'ordinary student'

Quote:
The only son of Prince and Princess Akishino, the young prince enrolled this week at Ochanomizu University Elementary in Tokyo. He is the first male member of the Imperial family in the post-World War II era who will not attend Gakushuin Primary School.

The decision is said to be an effort by the prince's parents to ensure their son receives an ordinary education without any special treatment. As Prince Hisahito will one day succeed the throne barring any changes to rules regarding the structure of or membership in the Imperial family attending the primary school will help him prepare for life as a symbol of both the state and the unity of the Japanese people. [...]

At the Gakushuin schools, Imperial family members are referred to as "miya sama" (prince or princess). Furthermore, many classmates are the grandchildren or great-grandchildren of former Imperial or noble family members, said Motomasa Higashisono, senior director of the Gakushuin School Corp.

Comparatively, students at the Ochanomizu University-affiliated school have parents who come from a variety of backgrounds, such as company employees, public servants and company operators.

As it is affiliated with the university, experimental teaching programs are often tested at the school. Each grade has 105 students across three classes, including 70 from the affiliated kindergarten. Its high school and university are for women only.

According to the agency official, Ocha-nomizu University Elementary School was chosen because "Prince and Princess Akishino believe that to become a symbol of the state in the future, it would be a valuable experience for the little prince to study with children from various backgrounds and be in touch with the feelings of common people."

Gakushuin has accepted many Imperial family members dating back to the pre-World War II era. "We regret that [Prince Hisahito] did not enroll at our school," Higashisono said.

Kako informally dressed

Dancing

Hisahito, smiling very cutely

Somebody apparently compared Hisahito to his great-grandfather, the Showa emperor. Honestly, I cannot see much of a similarity there - but it is a really cute pic of Hisahito.

Design of tiara for Princess Kako to be chosen through online bid
Quote:
The Imperial Household Agency is advertising online for the design of a tiara for Princess Kako, the 18-year-old daughter of Prince Akishino who is celebrating her coming-of-age ceremony next year.

When female members of the Imperial Family turn 20, a tiara is produced for their formal wear. [...]

The agency has included 28.9 million yen for the tiara in its fiscal 2013 budget plan. It aims to choose and make a contract with a supplier as early as July and complete the tiara by the end of March next year.
Edinburgh Universitys ultra-rich graduates inherit their money from family fortunes
Quote:
SCOTLANDS top two universities produce more graduates who live off inherited wealth than either Oxford of Cambridge. Research shows that of Edinburgh Universitys ultra-rich graduates those worth at least 20m more than a quarter get their money from family fortunes. [...]

Student leaders said the figures showed both Scottish universities needed to do more to make sure they are not just for the privileged elite. [...]

Nine out of ten of Edinburghs ultra-rich graduates are men. Among the universitys self-made millionaires are Harry Potter author JK Rowling and Sir Chris Hoy.

The institution also attracts royalty from around the world. Last year it emerged Japans Princess Mako was to study at the university.

German aristocrat Prince Albert II, who can trace his noble lineage back to the Holy Roman Empire and has been described as the worlds youngest billionaire, studied economics and theology at the university.
Other royalty to study at the university include Romanias Princess Margareta and Princess Raiyah of Jordan. [...]

Edinburgh Universitys Students Association said the institution needed to ensure students from all backgrounds were represented at the University.

She looks happy in those pictures. She's not smiling but compared to how she looks in Japan she might as well be doing cartwheels.

the IHA has a strangle hold on the imperial family...to be with a family both royal and free must be near heaven for her.

Princess Kako head for U.S. to have 1-month homestay
Quote:
[...]The daughter of Prince Akishino, the emperor's second son, left Narita airport in the morning on a commercial airplane to stay at the home of an acquaintance of the prince and his wife Princess Kiko in Massachusetts. The homestay was arranged at the request of Princess Kako, the agency said. During her stay in the United States, she plans to make a trip to Colorado for sightseeing. [...]

It would be safe to say that Princess Kako will enjoy her visit to USA.

You are very welcome, Albina!
I agree. Her broad smile shows that she is looking forward to it very much.

I imagine every member of the JIF enjoys the freedom they experience being away from Japan and away from the IHA.

On November 10, Princess Mako attended the 35th National Youth Speech Contest. In previous years, her mother, Princess Kiko, used to attend the contest.
