Congratulations to Princess Kiko, however I still do agree that there will still be issues concerning potential female heirs to the throne in the future. I kind of feel sorry for Princess Aiko too, but at least there would be lesser problems for her I guess, especially matters that deal with the line of succession.

oh, just came back from school...read an article about it. congrats prince Akishino and princess kiko.
question: does this mean aiko now will never be empress of japan? +
does cp Naruhito have to give up his right to become emperor? (please send me an answer by "private message") or a.s.a.p. in this thread

Almost certainly means exactly that.

No; he's still Crown Prince. However, there's obviously some serious undercurrents going on, so I think the best thing to do is wait and see how things play out.

It was said on TV that a boy was born. The most important is his health and his mum's health, but I can't actually say I feel OK about everything, as I feel a bit sorry for Masako and for her situation.

I really hope this doesn't sink CP Masako deeper.... and i pray that there won't be a rift between the 2 brothers although i don't particually like akishino...

It's all too fishy and only time will tell how this saga will play itself out.

I hope they mean activities related to their job as parents of three kids! No more foreign trips for them or public engagement as they are needed now to cater to the new prince. Instead let Masako and Naruhito do the travelling...

Congratulations on the birth of the prince.

This may not be so bad for Aiko. I agree it's sad that she will never be empress but instead she may be able marry and have her own life instead of being controlled by the IHA.

Congratuliations

It is incredible that, in an advanced country like Japan, the new born prince go ahead of Princess Aiko

Congratulations to the royal couple. We were not surprised that a baby was a boy. And all the best to a boy, the most important that he's healthy.
I wonder how Masako feels in this situation? Maybe she is relieved that there is not preassure on her to bear a heir anymore, or maybe she feals like a failure. I hope that this situation will not hurt her, and will not make her depression worse.
I guess conservatives are very happy now, plus IHA and maybe emparor too.
The debate whether women should be allowed to inherit a throne is moved probably to next generation.

TLLK, I had the same feeling as you. I feel so sad for CP Masako and her daughter!

I guess congratulations are in order for the Emperor, the Empress, prince and princess Akishino and their daughter Mako and Mako... Oh and let's not forget the IHA.

I feel sorry for the little prince. His life will now be completly organized by the IHA... His life and what he'll do at various points in his life is now set up, only the pictures are missing... I wonder if he'll ever be allowed to do something "he" wants to do?

As for Masako, there are two roads she could take
1) She takes the birth of a son to her brother and sister-in-law very badly and falls into a deeper depression never to recover...
2) She was aware of the possibility of the baby being a boy and therefore has allready started dealing with it with the possibility of regaining her mental health enough in order to conceive on her own.

Guess will have to wait and see...

Japanese citizens rejoice over birth of baby prince

(Kyodo) _ Japanese citizens rejoiced Wednesday over the birth of a baby boy to Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, though some expressed concern that debate over female succession will now recede.
"I am glad the baby was delivered safely," said Mayumi Masamoto, 27, a Tokyo resident who came to the Imperial Palace in the heart of the city with her 2-year-old son to express her congratulations.............

Question

Congratulations on the safe arrival of the baby! As for Aiko, Masako, and Naruhito it may turn out to be the best for Aiko that she is not in direct line of succession. Maybe she will be allowed to grow up and have a more normal less restricted life than she would have otherwise had as the heir. I'm sure both Masako and Naruhito would not want their daughter to endure the same kind of pressures that the Crown Princess has faced since her marriage. Anyway, glad that both mom and baby are safe and healthy.
